bound her in her bones - Latoya - November 02, 2020

She'd never been here before. Eartha had mentioned it once or twice, are Latoya remembered every word. Because that's what she did. The woman absorded information like a sponge, hold it for just the right moment to most benefit her. Her and @Lynford, that is.

They had followed the coast all the way here. The ocean on their left side most of the way. It was a comfort to the shade. She prefered to stay near the coast if possible, dense forest reminded her to much of her parents territory.

The ocean crashed harshly against the shore. Despite the sun, Latoya could feel a storm brewing on the wind. The rain would set in soon, and the temperature would ocntinue to drop. The wind was already picking up. Glaning over her shoulder at Lynford, Latoya let him lead them where they were going to settle for the night.

He was quiet as they made their way along the coast, his mind always calculating. Currently he was going over just how he might go about finding this wolf Eartha had called them all here to search for. He would need more information, of course, like where to start asking questions. There were others to look for, as well—the ones who had wronged Eartha would pay in due time; he was a patient man and would follow this all the way until the end.

But the end was not tonight, and as the air grew colder and smelled of an incoming storm, he had already started looking for shelter for the night. They needed to rest, and he didn't wish to continue traveling in whatever wrath the sea was cooking up.

After only about half a mile, it seemed they were in luck—a collection of caves could be seen hugging the water in the distance, creating a small cove that would provide them with shelter and security for the night. He looked over at Latoya and lifted his head in the direction of his find, then he picked up speed, slowing only when he came the mouth of the largest cavern. Another glance to his partner, and he headed inside, glad to find it empty and a few degrees warmer now that they were sheltered from the wind. This will do, he told her, taking a seat and looking around.

The cave was a good find, perfect to shelter from the wind. Latoya shook off as she entered the rocky cavern. "Brr!" She exclaimed hopping from paw to paw. They had been walking all day with hardly a break and her paws were a little chilly.

As Lynford sat, she scopped out the area a little, surveying the very pack quickly before returning to his side. "Are you hungry?" It hadn't been to long since they had eaten, but she offered to go back out into the wind if in fact he was hungry. That's just how it was between them. "We made good progress today." She commented off handedly, as she moved across from him.

She danced around on her paws while he looked around, his gaze finding hers when she inquired about food. Lynford shook his head. Not particularly, he told her. Food could wait for tomorrow when they had rested. We can eat in the morning.

He nodded at her remark on their progress. He had been thinking the same thing, although he wasn't surprised that they were on the same page; they usually were. He looked down at her paws for a few moments before looking back up. Do your paws need medical attention? he asked. They had done a lot of walking and it was not the easiest of environments right now; it created the perfect conditions for raw paw pads or frost bite. Better to take care of things before they hindered her ability to travel and they had to stop for even longer.

She simply shrugged at his suggestion of eating tomorrow, suit youself, she thought as she settled back on her haunches and wrapped her tail tightly around her paws. She could feel his eyes on her, and she turned her own gaze on him. Not that she had an eye for medical deficiencies, but she had a way with Lynford, even if he would never admit it. Despite everything, they made a good team.

"Umm? No, I think they're just cold. I'll warm up soon enough." At least she hoped. They were sleping on the bare stone, and it was just the two of them so she could bully her way into a snuggle with any of the crew. As she was known to do. She was glad for the time away with Lynford though, it was rarely just the two of them any more. Although it probably would have been a better idea to bring the navigator, but she supposed her scouting skills were sharp enough to accomplish the mission they were on.

All right, answered. If you change your mind, let me know.

The night was cold, not that it bothered him all that much, but a body next to his would be preferable to feeling the chilly, sea breeze from outside. Latoya looked far colder, which tugged at some kind of protectiveness within him. Whether it was protecting someone who had proven most useful to him or because he wanted to keep her around, he didn't really know; nor did he care to investigate the why.

Come here, he demanded smoothly. We can keep each other warm for the night.
