seems like it's been forever - Nikai - November 04, 2020

if you don't have time soon pm me and we can maybe just work out what they talked about behind-the-scenes? :)

The other day Nikai had ended up getting distracted, first by helping out Sialuk with the charcoal and then taking Caelum for a patrol along the borders. Today, though, he was determined to find @Hydra and Dirge. Alya hadn't returned since and his concern was growing. He needed someone who knew what was going on; and wihle things between him and Alya had seemed peachy, maybe he had overlooked something, and he knew all too painfully well that if anyone knew better than him where his mate was, it would be her sisters Hydra and Lyra.

The Alpha of the pair he sought out presently, hoping to catch her soon. Where her and Dirge's scent trails split up he decided to follow Hydra's, for she was the queen and she was Alya's sister; hopefully, his search would bear fruits this time.

Hydra had been patrolling when she heard a sound not oft heard (at least by her) in this neck of the woods. A graceless hobbling (unfair—Nikai had found his footing here at long last for it to not be considered entirely graceless) caused Hydra to contemplate increasing her speed so as to not endure his company, or slow down so as to accomodate him.

He had helped a good deal with the looking after her children, when she could not—with a resigned sigh, she slowed to a stop in order to mark where she stood.

The mountain's queen was busy, it seemed, as she always was. She came into view, and he was grateful when he found that she had stopped to give him time to catch up. While he had gotten more used to having three legs, it would always be an impairment to him and if she had wanted to, she could've easily avoided him for the rest of however long she pleased. As he drew up besides Hydra Nikai smiled, as he usually did; so often that it might sometimes be hard to tell if he was truly a happy sort of person, or if it was a mask to hide everything else behind.

Thanks for letting an old man catch up, he said with a joking chuckle (as of course, he wasn't any older than she). I'd love to stick around for some small talk after, but I want to ask you something serious first. Did Alya tell you she was going somewhere? She's been gone a few days. It's fine, of course. That she goes, I mean. She just usually tells me. He actually really hoped that Hydra would tell him that she had told her sister that she was going somewhere. He didn't even really care at this point that she hadn't told him (though perhaps some frustration over it might return at a late time, was he reassured), he just wanted to stop worrying and know that her departure was planned, at least.

I asked her to, she admitted, and it was something that could not wait. A child needed escorting back home, and she was to take them to the coast, she hummed. I hope you can forgive me for the urgency I pressed upon the issue. Her tail lashed behind her, and she seemed to consider something. The leader of the pack she escorts the child to is a good friend of mine. The journey is not a short one, and Alya may rest there for a time... perhaps not, though, she thought aloud, remembering the excitement in her sisters eye at the idea.

After a beat, Hydra prompted, how about we take your mind off of things? Go on a hunt, here her tail waved. What are you in the mood for?

Nikai nodded when Hydra explained where Alya'd gone. He was happy to have an explanation and to know that she hadn't just gone without a word. It made sense to him that Hydra knew what he did not; Nikai had since long accepted that being a part of Alya's life meant always been second best compared to her twin sisters. It was something he easily accepted, as he was luckily not very jealous for attention. Ah, short? When do you expect her to be back? Nikai asked; there was no suspicion in his voice, he only wanted to know so that he knew what to expect.

Hydra then suggested a hunt, and Nikai nodded. Yeah, I could hunt. We could see if we can take down one of the mountain goat? It's a trickier prize, but worth the hunt. There was something about mountain goats that was not so much about the food (well, of course it always was, in part) but the journey and the hunt; the terrain was more perilous, especially for someone like he with only three legs, and the risk was considerable. However, they proved a great challenge and Nikai felt that his mate's sister and his pack's Alpha would appreciate such a challenge, too.

fade bc I suck, sorry for such long delay <3

It was not intentionally that Hydra did not answer Nikai; a scent on the wind snared her attention entirely. Hydra moved toward it, and sniffed at the earth; one ear back turned to Nikai's suggestion. Lifting her head to look back to him, she nodded. Mountain goat it is, then, she accepted with a wave of her tail. The going might be slower, but Hydra was patient... and appreciated to see the skill Nikai exercised upon three legs. She would move slowly with him; she lifted up a foreleg and drawled, shall we? before setting off, with him presumably beside her.
