Eat your heart out. - Mesa - November 04, 2020

The glen was... quaint, or that's the word that he'd use if he knew it; busy was pretty good too. There were all kinds of scents in this place and nothing really cohesive about it, along with winding paths in the dark.

He tried to gather his bearings by exploring some of the more Osiris-y smelling routes but found bodies ambling on patrol, or youthful faces chattering with one another. Some shot him curios looks and Mesa ducked away from them. Having gotten on fine as a lone wolf (for the most part) joining a still-in-transition pack full of young blood made him nervous.

Well, people made him nervous. The shadows, too. Not afraid-of-the-dark nervous, exactly. The boy liked knowing what was out there, and in this instance, he didn't have the luxury. It was unnerving.

Boys.
To be honest, it was hard to see their ranks as anything more than boys and girls.
For Toad, though she was not an aging woman, she felt as though she had found her way into a pit of pups that had convinced themselves as frightening adults. In truth, it all felt like a strange game she was playing.

Under the dormant willows she went. She found herself on the borders on her way back from observing a large herd of elk on a nearby ridge closer to Moonspear. In the darkness, she found an unfamiliar smell and followed it with concern.

Eventually she found the source. He was young as all Glen members but Toad were. He looked like he had been dipped in mud at the end. He smelled like he had been here enough that he was "good" so to speak, and Toad relaxed with a chuff. Hey, she said, I'm Toad, are you new?

Mesa was interested in keeping to himself, which most of the inhabitants of the glen honored. Someone called out to him as he was passing though — first a chuff, then a call followed by an introduction he only heard because he couldn't avoid it; a shrewd once-over was all Toad received at first.

The question registered in his head a second late, and he snorted as he answered, No.
—whether that was a response to the question or a direct refusal to participate in conversation, was unclear.

Immediately, she felt weird, and bad. She didn't know why she had never noticed him before, she just hadn't. He offered no name, no information, no nothing. She frowned. No, what? So far, because everyone at Firefly Glen had been so kind to her, her blunt nature hadn't really come out much. This was a whole other story.

He had absolutely zero right to be a rude child to her. She was a person of meaning and status. Internally, Toad prepared to do mental battle.
