the divine right of kings - Avicus - November 18, 2020

please feel free to join :) rounds/order will depend on how many jump in

the clatter echoes through the valley, reverberating off the walls.

winter is coming, and the bucks are horny. no, really—great antlers protrude from their heads, and two of these racks are engaged in combat now. as the sun sets, the deer clash, each attempting to savage the other in pursuit of a mate.

the winner gets to sire the next generation. the loser. . .

is dinner, Avicus thinks. or perhaps both. but she cannot do it alone. she watches them from a distance, huddled in the midst of some shrubbery. anyone nearby will be able to hear their cries of battle, the crashing of their bodies together.

she waits for other hunters to arrive, but is content to sit and watch if they do not.

blood is blood, after all, no matter if it's spilled from the jaws of a predator or from the horns of prey.

RE: the divine right of kings - Ashlar - November 20, 2020

Ashlar is here and will do backup!  Hopefully I won't hold things up, but if I end up doing so, please feel free to skip or powerplay him to your heart's content <3

Ashlar was not looking for Avicus when he arrived at the place where the crashing came, yet somehow he found her there anyway.  When he arrived there it was because he heard the rhythm in the antler strikes and the cries of the deer below.  He was piecing together a melody right now, humming quietly to himself in a wordless yet melodic fashion  while his tail twitched in time to the violent noise.  It was terrifyingly pretty.

Speaking of terrifying pretty things.

Ashlar froze when he spotted Avicus, then followed her gaze to the scene below.  Once he began to watch he couldn't look away.  He'd never seen anything like this!  The song had already died on his lips and now he inched forward to watch, riveted, while the impressive beasts fought for dominance.  Every bit of him quailed thinking about being down there and he was not aware of his intentions to hunt.  Once they were made known he would no doubt fear them, but he knew what his role was to the home he now lived in.  He would help however he could.
