the winding roads - Nikai - November 20, 2020

@Keres! I'll post one for arrival at EH in the next few days <3

Nikai had asked if anyone could join him for a trip to Easthollow to visit Valette and let her know that he was doing well, as were Leta and Charles. Nikai didn't know Charles at all, honestly, and wondered whose child he was. All Nikai knew was that he wasn't Valette's. He'd seen the boy briefly on his way out of Moonspear, but nothing more.

The journey was slower than he remembered. Though he'd practised on travelling on the mountains, Nikai did not get out of pack territory as much as he used to when he was still a scout. These days he focused on telling stories and coaching the young as well as upkeeping pack morale instead. The latter was a tough task in Moonspear, because a lot of them were very serious and it was hard to initiate play. Nikai often mused about ways to loosen them up, but in the end he had to conclude every time that it was maybe just not the way they were. Every wolf was different, after all, and so was every pack. The tactics of upkeeping good pack atmosphere that Nikai had grown up learning in Easthollow unfortunately didn't apply to Moonspear very well.

Let's take a break here, before we breach the mountains, Nikai said as they reached Otter Creek. He hoped that the route through the Fox Hollow and into the Blackfoot Forest would be available. It'd been some time since he last travelled here. He remembered vividly how Alya had tested out his missing legs by going across Sawtooth Spire the last time. He didn't intend to repeat that any time soon. Then we can also get to know each other a bit. Nikai smiled at Keres. Do you want to tell me about yourself, and how you ended up on Moonspear?

RE: the winding roads - Keres - November 29, 2020

Ahhh sorry for the wait!!!

Their movement was slow, but peaceful, something Keres did not mind as she walked along side the dark pelaged tripod. Prior to her joining the mountain pack, she had never before seen a three-legged... anything, much less a wolf. It was curious to her, how one hunted, how one survived with one less leg than every one else, but he was still alive and was a part of Moonspear, so it was not her place to question or judge. She would accept him as she accepted all the others.

Sure, She answered, glancing around the area to take it in, the sights the sounds, all of it. Her response was, in effect, to everything he said but for the moment, she turned to look at him, a smile upon her face and a wag waving her tail. Let's see. I was born alongside Dirge and Nyx in Winterheart Forest. They left after a few years and eventually I left, too. At some point, I had a mate and children, but my girls set out on their own and he... well. After that, I set out on my own and somehow ended up finding my long lost brother in the very first place I stopped to ask.

It was the truncated version, of course, but if Nikai had further questions, she was sure he'd ask. What about you?

no problem at all <3

Nikai hadn't actually known that Keres was one of Dirge's siblings, so it came as a surprise. It was nice for Dirge to have some more family in Moonspear, Nikai thought. They'd talked a bit about how lonely it could get, being 'the mate of' a Moonspear wolf who was born to the original patriarch and matriarch of the mountain. He knew they all looked up to those wolves, and so anyone who wasn't their blood relative, like himself, would always be a bit lower on the hierarchical ladder.

I didn't know you were Dirge's sister — that's great, he said with a smile. He let her continue then as she told about how she had a mate and children, but that it broke apart after the children had left. Nikai frowned, wondering what had happened. I'm glad you found him. If you don't mind me asking... What happened with you and your mate..? You don't have to say if you don't want to, but sometimes it can help to tell a stranger about a strained relation. Nikai left it open whether she wanted to share. Then, he asked, How do you like the mountain so far?
