Sometimes I think they do it just for fun - Fennec - November 20, 2020
I have a dice system and wow it hates her. This is going to be an interesting span of time
It took all of a second in the icy water to remind Fennec that winter was fast approaching and all of one day for her to sincerely regret her choices so far. Pride kept her in the mountains, but so far, her only chance and attempt at hunting had ended in disaster. She'd encountered the sharp scent around mid-morning, a trail whose like she'd never encountered before but that smelled small enough to perhaps be workable on her own. In the mountains she wondered if she wouldn't have some kind of an advantage... there wasn't a lot of room for anything to run, and cornering had always been her go-to method when running never ceased to fail.- Prey roll: medium, miss - Mountain roll: whump, semi-severe - Whump consolation catch?: NOPE, miss again Her quarry turned out to be a small hog, barely tusked, but she only managed to get it cornered for a small amount of time. Just when she'd been preparing to launch herself at the creature it had rushed her instead. She didn't have room to correct or to get out of the way... and instead, she ended up falling a distance down into the canyon below. She was lucky enough to hit another ledge (otherwise RIP) but unlucky enough to snap a few ribs in the process. As far as making it on her own went, she was hitting a solid ten here. Irritated, disillusioned, lonely, and yet still too proud to give up, Fennec thought about her next move while she lay there. She was in pain, but the medic in her knew as long as she took it easy she'd likely be fine. Taking it easy meant no real hunting, but if she got lucky, she might be able to scavange a meal or two. She heard a scuffling sound and tensed, but then realized it was just her badger friend, making his way down to her with the whisper of her foxfur dragging behind. It looks like this is going to be our base,Fennec said aloud, wincing as her side protested even that much. It was about to get worse, but she couldn't just stay here. With a low hiss she pushed herself to her paws, then began to pick her way (carefully) down into the canyon's floor, where she would spend most of the rest of the day wandering her new 'digs'. It's beauty was completely lost on her but it would suffice for now; there was water (I'm going to say?), warm sand, and at the very least some bugs that "little-stink" (she really needed to name him) ended up digging up. Fennec swallowed her reservations (and a number of the bugs) and resolved to try one more day solo. If she turned up jack shit, then it would be time for plan B. WC: 458
