Have you ever felt like you could disappear? - Fennec - November 21, 2020

Also I have dnd today and need WORDS.  I am having fun with this omg.  Last RO <3

By the end of the week Fennec had acquired a flock.  There were two she'd really spoken to... at least, two distinct calls she recognized.  She wasn't sure if it was her talking that had done the trick or not.  She'd mainly just opened up about shit she'd never speak of again (and that they'd take to the grave, no doubt, being birds).  In reality it was probably her blindness that worked in her favor this once, ensuring that she posed little threat to them even if she decided to turn.  For whatever reason, they led her to her next real meal; another small hog, this one injured and clearly on it's last legs.  She could smell the blood and the fear from yards away.  She'd dispatched it quickly, opened and eaten her fill, and left the rest on display for her avian posse.  From that point on a partnership was struck.

This was fortunate because the pain of her healing fractures made it hard to sleep and, as a result, the combination of the two made it hard to eat or do much of anything.  She forced herself to eat but she still thinned out some.  She was glad in the end she had been spared from eating her badger friend - the ravens were flighty and tended to disappear on a whim, but he was her constant companion through days sleeping and nights wandering.  He made her feel a tad safer, if only a tad, and the bonus was he didn't have much going on besides the desire to roam along with her and occasionally tumble around at her feet.

She'd finally named him, and named the two ravens as well.  Quick for the badger and Krrk and Kraa for the ravens.  What had started out as a joke with Toad Amelia had somehow felt right for them - all of their names were as passable an imitation that the wolf could make for their sounds.

For the first time, despite a rocky start, Fennec was doing this.  She'd worked out a system of give and take that would hold out at least until winter; maybe beyond as winter took prey of its own and if the place had little competition.  If she ignored the empty feeling gnawing at her, she could almost visualize a life here.  But she'd never intended it to be a completely isolated existence, and that was where plan B came in.

A new name, for a while, and a new identity.  She'd go by Wraith and still ascribe to her role as witch of the mountains.  She'd tried to workshop other ideas; she'd sold the witch concept so much back home.  But at this point it was integral, and 'healer' didn't cover the services she offered.  When she was back on her feet she'd serve the lot.  Poisons, medicines, fortunes, curses, all available and all for a price.

This place would become her home base, but soon she would make her presence known, and maybe any around would begin to come to her.  Eventually, she could make a name for herself... and then, maybe then, she'd consider going back.
