blood hound rock, blue moon roll - Haiku - December 12, 2020

The Mackenzie had been making serious headway in his travels since venturing into the Wilds. His mode of travel often happened during daylight hours, to which on this cold but partly cloudy day he migrated from Great Bear Wilderness over to Kintla Flatlands. Preferring the open air where he was directly under sunlight and relishing in the sun’s heat to keep warm, the Thawdrift happened upon the major watering hole of this region. It was a vast lake with smaller connecting rivers flowing into it. The most impressive was the breathtaking backdrop of the Sunspire Mountains in the distance. It reminded him of home in Gros Morne where the lake of his homelands was positioned in front of a beautiful backdrop. He saw much of his home in these lands and with a dull ache in his heart and soul, fondly missed what he left behind.

Homesickness was always temporary though. The beaten paths and least traveled roads always proved to be much more interesting than what was left behind (but never forgotten) Coming to the water’s edge of the lake, he first satiated his thirst. Upon first coming into the Wilds, he sparred with a wolf by the name of Wren who resided in Kingsled and she bit down quite hard to draw blood from his neck area during their spar. He had since scrubbed the area best he could in a stream that was on the way toward Kintla so the blood wouldn’t deeply stain but there was some residue color of it left in his carob-hued pelt.

Needing to get the rest of it out, he went to a boulder situated by the shore of the lake. Resenting the idea of having to go in ice-cold lake water, he had no choice but to go about mid-leg deep, dip his chest and neck in, then shake and go to the boulder to attempt to “scrub” the stain out. Being a canine with four legs, one was limited to grooming himself in a difficult area of his fur, but this was the only method he knew how.
