i. i'll wrap up my bones - Lótë - February 21, 2021 Through grasslands and alongside mountains the yearling -- nearly able to claim a second turn of the seasons now -- had trekked. Eyes of spring had drunk in all that the land had to offer, though it was muted and bound by the restrictions of winter's frigid breath as of yet -- searching, waiting for the revival the change of the seasons would bring. Alone though she was, the dove managed well enough. Occasionally, an opportunity to scavenge the remains of some frozen creature or another beast's kill presented itself to her but more oft than not, the herbalist resorted to trapping her meals. She found the loneliness the hardest aspect of her journey to deal with, however, not the hunger. Hers was a social species and the communal clan of creative souls she'd been raised in had been the only haven she had ever known. It was disarming and jolting to be so alone, to lack even the sight or sound of other living creatures around her -- having only the songs of birds to keep her company. Morning was giving way to midday when the she-wolf found her way to the glacier, its blue ice base a deep well of azure -- as brilliant as the sky must be where it was hidden by the cover of clouds overhead. Lótë could only imagine what the monolith of crystalline ice might look like lit by the sun's beams -- wondering if perhaps it merely glowed like the depths of a tropical lagoon or glinted like the facets of a blue topaz. There were natural divots and chunks in the ice that she used to her climb up onto the cold plateau, inwardly grateful that the ice seemed rather solid due to the low temperatures. Once the vagabond had hauled herself up onto the ice, she ambled along at a slow pace -- allowing her verdant optics to trail in a similarly leisurely pattern, absorbing the ice fields before her. She drank in the sight of the snow being blown lightly across the frozen cliffs and summits, feeling a small pang in her heart for how much it resembled her home. The girl was in no hurry as she admired the glacial setting with newfound hiraeth, not particularly having any plans in mind of where she would go after this -- just living in the moment, enjoying this small discovery. RE: i. i'll wrap up my bones - Sialuk - February 21, 2021 Exhausted though she may be, Sialuk did not rest anymore than was required. As soon as she was able, she put herself on a path north, placing more distance away from the broken spear. Sixsix guided her way, perhaps to another kill made by the spirits so that she may live. Instead, he led her to another wolf. A white one. A woman. The raindrop thought of the men that had flocked to them since their home on the spear had been taken. It was more women that they needed to stay safe from men who wished to take. Sialuk slowed as she came near, speaking her usual salutation. I greet you,she said, her tail limp at her hocks. The crow had flown off, apparently satisfied that he had led her to the right place. RE: i. i'll wrap up my bones - Lótë - February 22, 2021 As if conjured by her inner musings, her eyes focus upon two pale blips on the horizon. They tell her it is nothing more than the same grains buffering her in a cold raze at that very moment, snow caught like sand on the winds of a storm. But the verdant orbs linger all the same, her mind recognizing before they do. A woman -- a yearling in truth, perhaps younger than Lótë by a turn of the seasons -- draped in the same achromatic hues found atop the glacier, the other blip her winged creature which soared away with a few powerful flaps of its wings as the pallid femme drew near. "And I you," the dove murmured in return as she met the white wisp halfway, tawny ears cupping towards the unfamiliar greeting she was offered. It was pleasing on the ears, she decided. "I'm Lótë," she introduced herself, and felt only a small stab of guilt for this lie. It was not completely untrue. Lótë was who she was now, who she chose to be. That was all that mattered, right? Despite her moment of inner turmoil, the artist's tail gave a few wags where it hung in a similar low position -- as if to say: it's nice to meet you. "Forgive me for asking if it would be prying but...are you alright?" the herbalist asked, tones colored with a hint of concern. She didn't want to make assumptions or bother the girl if it was horribly personal but she got the sense that there was something more to the exhaustion that curled over the other woman's shoulders like a fine wrap. RE: i. i'll wrap up my bones - Sialuk - February 22, 2021 Lótë. Sialuk commits the name to memory. I am Sialuk Ostrega. It is harder now to say her second name, and Lótë's question makes obvious that her emotions are not well-hidden, as they should be. Frustrated with herself, but too weary to scold herself, she responded in a way she knew how. Hardship has come upon my kin and I. Our home was struck by a strange storm, and we were displaced to a ring of small mountains. This is where we stay until our surviving kin find us.And if there were no survivors? Sialuk did not know, and she did not wish to think of it now. There was still hope that they may find one another. The days marched on, and Sialuk and Kukutux followed with heavy, hopeful hearts. RE: i. i'll wrap up my bones - Lótë - February 23, 2021 Sialuk. It reminds her somewhat of the names one might hear amongst the northern tribes, beyond the Land of Many Elms that Elenwë's daughter had named home -- which is not too far off base. The dove gives a dip of her head in response to the girl's name, nothing more than a habit of formal gesture. The young woman's plight inspires her auds to lower slightly in empathy, her features awash in a contained measure of shock. Her grief is not the same, that of a stranger who did not witness the horror that claimed their family. Still, such a tragedy tugs at her and prompts her to offer readily: "Do you need help?" "I know that I'm a stranger but...I know the pain of loss," the fawn hesitates as she murmurs the words, reluctant to offer even this small tidbit to a stranger. Perhaps they might find some common ground in this but this is not the day for sharing sad stories. "And I have no where else to go anyways. It would be a better use of time and energy to help you and your kin than to wander as I have," she gives a tiny shrug as she says it, not unaware that to freely offer such kindness or services might be considered out of the norm. RE: i. i'll wrap up my bones - Sialuk - February 23, 2021 Tag for reference!
She offered her help, and Sialuk splayed her ears in gratefulness. This was the first woman not of her kin to have met her, and Sialuk thought of Raimo. Perhaps this woman would please him, keep him away from the raindrop and anaa. If they found taataa and brataa, Lótë might join them as well. Yes, Sialuk decided, she would accept. My mother, @Kukutux, stays in an ulaq made of snow to keep safe from the wind while she heals. I will take you there, bring you to her, and she can say more on ways you can help.Anaa would know what tasks to assign her, what roles she might fill. In this way, they could rebuild dear aunt's legacy. RE: i. i'll wrap up my bones - Lótë - February 23, 2021 The older girl lowered her head for a moment in a respectful sort of nod, accepting Sialuk's decision and words alike. Her tail gave a single swish where it hung by her hocks, pleased to have found a purpose to fill her hours -- though she did wish it could be under different circumstances, that the spirits hadn't felt the need to take so much from the pearlescent yearling's family. Still, the artisan did was not crafted for drifting so aimlessly, she longed for the presence of people even for just the small smells and sounds of her own kind around her. Perhaps when the girl's kith came they might pull together and form a clan anew. Lótë had no other obligations, no where better to be as she had told the raindrop -- only empty and foreign lands, the pull of the wind accompanying her. Perhaps they would permit her to stay if she helped to build. "Alright," she lilted softly, perhaps needlessly, in verbal agreement -- and would gladly fall into step with the duck's daughter if she moved to lead the way back to her dam and the ulaq she had spoken of. RE: i. i'll wrap up my bones - Sialuk - February 24, 2021 Last post from me. <3
Lote followed, and Sialuk returned her to the den to meet anaa. When they arrived, the raindrop excused herself to for a much-needed nap before returning to hunt for food. In days to come, she would try to learn more about Lote and where she had come from, but for the immediate time, her focus must be on food and making sure anaa was comfortable while she healed. |
