Drink me - Takiyok - April 18, 2021 for Taikon
forward dated a sort of undecided amount of time? but not too far Her unrest had grown in the last week or so. She didn't like it here; it held only bad memories for her. Sometimes, she woke up and wondered what she was even doing here in the first place. She and Taikon hadn't wanted to join a pack for a while, but life had swooped in yet again and screwed everything up. She paused her steps when she realized she had wandered into a part of the forest she had never seen before. It was odd considering she spent quite a bit of time patrolling. The sun had set hours ago, and she had been restlessly walking the borders, lost in thought. It wasn't like her to not pay attention to her surroundings—another reason to dislike this place. A rustling made her freeze and scan the trees around her. There was nothing there. She shrugged it off as some forest creature fleeing at the scent of a predator. But after a few more minutes, she heard it again from behind her. She whirled around but saw nothing. The sound came from behind her again, and she spun around, her heart slamming against her ribs. She fought through the panic like she had been taught, like she had done many times before. Only, she realized she wasn't able to push the feeling away. None of her calming tricks were working. The panic intensified as it made its way from her gut, to her chest and up her throat. She could hear her heart pounding in her ears. She heard the sound again but from all around her. Hundreds of glowing eyes looked back at her from the darkness, and she decided she would go crazy if she stayed here one more second. Taki turned and sprinted back the way she had come. She galloped through the trees, absolutely terrified, searching for the one wolf she knew could help her. She wouldn't slow until she found Taikon, and then she would throw herself against him and bury her face in his fur. RE: Drink me - Taikon - April 20, 2021 -assorted noises-
After Zephyr left, he had felt a bit of tension between he and Takiyok, and not the good kind. Still, he tried to take the opportunity to continue his recuperation. Hunting, usually unsuccessfully, took up a large amount of his time. Most of the time these were solo ventures. Even since his improvements, he had not managed to feel comfortable enough to hunt with others in the pack. He wondered how Cordelia was settling in, if at all. He wondered why Rowan could not go with Zephyr. He wondered a lot of things that surrounded the dynamics between residents of the strange forest. Heading back toward the den, he carried a small morsel. It was a chipmunk he had discovered, injured and left there by some other far smaller animal, probably a bobcat. They were the only beasts that bothered to torture animals in this way, despite their superior ability to kill quickly. As he moved toward it, Takiyok came running from nowhere and smashed herself into his chest. Her eyes were wide and frightened. Something was very wrong. He abruptly dropped the catch and embraced her. Taki! What's going on?!Something horrific must have happened. Again. RE: Drink me - Takiyok - April 28, 2021 She shivered against him, finding it hard to catch her breath even to deliver enough oxygen to her lungs, let alone answer his question. So she sat pressed against him for a few long moments before she could even pull her head back to look at him. She stared up at him with wide, frightened eyes, her pupils blown up so big there was none of the fiery orange left. Th—They were chasing me. So many of them. I did not know what they were. Did not know what to do.She was shivering again, her words choppy and holding none to the steadiness they usually did. I had to get away. Had to find you.It was the only way she could be safe. Safe—I wanted to be safe. She started to hyperventilate. She pushed her face back into the fur of his throat—her spot under his chin. It felt safe there, and she clung to him and that feeling as if it would all fall away at any moment. Please stay, she shakily whispered. Please. RE: Drink me - Taikon - April 29, 2021 She was so out of breath, he feared the worst. Had she found Taktuq? Was she dead? Had she been brutalized? Had Lunaria been killed? Had there been another attack from the Saints? Was Zephyr okay? Had Takiyok herself been hurt?
As fear and concern flooded him, he began inspecting her as he kissed her and held her, searching for wounds or bruises that might tell him some story of what had occurred when she clearly could not. And then, as she tried to explain and he finally caught a glimpse of her gaze, he realized at once that something else was at play. I am here, you are okay,he breathed slowly, softly, keeping his volume quieter than normal for her. He remembered Zephyr. He remembered the seizures. Listen to me,he said, sternly but quietly. Did you go near the tree? RE: Drink me - Takiyok - April 29, 2021 His soft affection had started to calm the tremors running through her body, and she drew in his scent the second her face was in his fur again. He was here, and she knew she was safe. When he spoke again, his words were harder than they had been before—not angry but serious. She knew he wanted her focus, but it was hard to do that. Her brain was taking things in and jumbling them all around, making it hard to really understand what he asked. But trees. There were trees. Yes, a lot of trees—so many trees—her breathing picked up again. —And so many eyes. She pressed her face harder into his fur, pulling in his scent again to calm herself. RE: Drink me - Taikon - April 29, 2021 She was a mess. It was hard to say where she ended and where the confusion started. Takiyok. Brave, loyal, fierce, and ever willing to push forward when shit got real. This was not her at all. Her timidness frightened him, startled him. The gaze she offered him was one of a child, lost and tormented in a sea of oblivion that he hated more than any other.
Anger began to flood his senses. His ears grew hot and his nose flared at nothing while he held her tightly to his chest. That anything could reduce her to this infuriated him, and that he knew exactly where it had come from even more so. He tried to stay rational. Maybe it hadn't been the tree. Maybe she'd eaten a pile of something toxic. Maybe someone had forcefed her something. There are no eyes here, though. I am here,he reassured, breathing as calm as he could while his eyes grew dry and he sought in his mind who was to blame. Zephyr had brought them here, but he had done so out of loyalty and whatever version of kindness he was capable of. Rowan? Things had gotten weird lately. Taikon did not like religion. He did not like that he had joined a pack led by a religious individual. Such creatures sought power hidden in the guise of goodness and morality. A crow cawed at them from a tree. He glared at it openly. This fucking place. He growled under his breath. RE: Drink me - Takiyok - April 29, 2021 He was right. Now that he was here, there were no eyes, no feeling like something was watching her from the shadows, waiting to pounce. No,she whispered shakily. Just you.She nuzzled against him, reveling in the strength of his embrace. It was strong and warm and made her forget the bright eyes surrounding her in the dark. She was quiet for a long time, her breathing slowing to something more normal. She was starting to finally calm, and then a flash of bright memory in her mind—the eyes everywhere. She pulled back quickly to look at Taikon, fear creeping into her expression again. Taikon? The word was breathless. I do not understand.A hard swallow moved slowly down her throat. A heat started to build in her stomach. I need—What did she need? She needed him but she needed to be closer and she didn't know how to do that. Suddenly, she reached up and gently nuzzled that base of his ear where the fur was rabbit soft. Her affection was needy and vulnerable, asking for what she couldn't put into words. RE: Drink me - Taikon - April 29, 2021 He didn't like her in this state. It was strange. He had met and befriended many women and girls who had delicate personalities. They were fine and graceful and had all of the fears of all of the things in this cruel world. They had fathers and brothers and eventually they grew to have daughters and husbands. They lived and died. Through it all, they held that sense of naïveté and grace.
Takiyok was the opposite of all of these things, and it was why he identified so strongly with her from the beginning. Though she had been through hardship many times, she had come out from it strong and knowing. If he did anything wrong, she would be the first to tell him. He trusted her. To see her collapsed like this in fear and weird ailment infuriated him more than he could express, for he had to stay calm for her. Here, come with me.He answered her. He did not fully know what she needed. He was terrified she might go into a seizure like Zephyr had, and he would not be able to help her. He rose from their weird embrace, clinging to her and shepherding her toward the stream that ran close to the denning site they had chosen to raise their family. Please drink. It will help,he said. He was no medic, but he knew that drinking water helped with many ailments, including toxins. His mind spun. It throbbed. RE: Drink me - Takiyok - April 29, 2021 No, no, no. He didn't understand. She thought she had been obvious but clearly she hadn't made it clear what feeling was taking her over. How could she be clear when she didn't understand how to put it into words? It was as though her mind was jumbling things up on the outside too. She followed closely, letting some of her weight rest against him as they neared the water. He said she should drink. That it would make her feel better. She did as he suggested, slowly lowering herself to the water and lapping the cool liquid into her mouth. When she was done, she pulled back and stood up, water dripping from her lips as she looked to him again. But the feeling was still there, and it was only worse. She was quickly in front of him again pushing her nose into the fur of his neck. She had always been able to be honest with him, but her mind was foggy and she was still a little confused. Her stomach burned again and a flicker of realization flashed dimly in the back of her mind. Taikon, she said softly. I want to be with you. I don't want water. Her expression still held the soft lines of vulnerability, the toxin still making her eyes glassy and black. But she still had the overwhelming need to be with him; it felt wrong but she couldn't remember why. RE: Drink me - Taikon - April 30, 2021 Though Takiyok did what he asked of her, she seemed almost lost when she did so. Taikon watched the water drip from her chin and felt her face wet as she pushed back into his fur like he could just make whatever was bothering her go away. He tried his best not to feel frightened. If he was wrong, and it wasn't the tree, what then? Who would he find to help? Rowan seemed distracted and off doing his own thing. They hardly knew anyone in the pack. The Glen and neighbouring Moonspear were gone.
Okay,he answered gently. I'm here,he said, leaning into her to help assist this strange need for attention. Takiyok had always been affectionate toward him after they had established a solid friendship. This was excessive. Smothering. Taikon lay down, slowly, calculated. They would have to wait out whatever this madness was. He would not find Rowan for assistance. Now that Eldritch had returned and assumed a role superior to his, he no longer trusted anybody. It was unlikely there was anything he would be able to do anyway. I am with you. |
