Nobody saw this coming. - Naganomi - May 19, 2021 The ice wall due-south carried a bold blue tone that rivaled that of the sky, cutting across the horizon and up, monolithic in its scope. It had become a backdrop to so many of her antics of late that Naga no longer saw the majesty of it. Her focus was upon the valley proper — winding her way through it while scouring the terrain for food. In the more recent days the weather had stilled, warmed, and brought along another change: life, vivacious life, crawling across the heart of the lowlands. Naganomi felt the change as much as witnessed it; the grasslands grew thicker with the stalks sprouting pods of ripened seed, the trees beget blossoms which soon would transition to proper fruit. Her favorite place was a grove of wild orange trees — she relished the day that these would be ready to eat. It reminded her of home — all of it. A home long abandoned, at any rate. For now Naga's path carved between exposed sections of rock face along the valley's edge, as she had climbed to the highest point while hunting for signs of deer, or sheep, or even the unruly boar. The immensity of the glacier took her breath away for a minute or two while she adapted to her proximity to it, as well as the thinning of the air. Once the dizzying sensation passed she looked down along the ledge in to the valley, wondering if she would ever see another friendly face again. RE: Nobody saw this coming. - Gracious - May 25, 2021 the large woman is built for the white queen's army, with a coat of snowdrift and eyes full of storm clouds and rain. yet, the dead winter nights do not please her as much as the warm spring days that breathe life into the world before her. the snow and ice reminds her of the stagnant nature of her life at times, she feels secluded and alone in those cold moments of her memories. but when it comes to spring, she cannot think of a time that she didn't enjoy the moments of rebirth the season provided. she grows out of place with the grass and trees as they reclaim their land over the once frigid area, the earth does not cloak her as it once did months ago, but gracious didn't mind that much. the wind blows through her, though it doesn't steal away her focus from the grey partridge in front of her, that has yet to take notice to her presence. gracious needs this meal; while she certainly didn't look gaunt considering her substantial stature, she had lost weight while being off on her own and oftentimes was forced to scavenge more so than hunt. stale blood could never compare to the fresh kind from ripe veins and capillaries. she edges forward now, taking extra care to watch where her massive paws step to avoid making noise. the partridge still has yet to take notice of her -- this was her chance. surging forward, gracious unhinges her jaw revealing her coal black lips as the partridge panics and takes to the sky. with a leap, gracious snags the bird's wing, causing a shriek from the bird to escape its break. small flocks of other birds took to the sky, though gracious bid no attention to it. however, if she had, it would've led her to see the other large and pale woman above her, watching quietly. |
