I moved to california in the summertime - Merrit - June 25, 2021 They had a rhythm of convening at least once every number of nights. Merrit let his cousin's name settle on the summer air as he took to rest upon the forest grass. The days had grown long again, and warm. Merrit preferred these, over the dark and endless nights of the icebound winter. The sunlight soothed his lingering depression, and Merrit found his thoughts could rest in listening to the gentle lap of the lake against the shore, without bothering to sink to any grizzly depths. The stars would also be out soon. Merrit had seen @Kallik watching them before but had never yet joined him in the art. Merrit knew so little about the stars, but if his cousin came tonight, he hoped they might watch them together. RE: I moved to california in the summertime - Kallik - June 26, 2021 Kallik didn't care for the heat really at all. His coat was thick—not meant for the summer season. As the hottest part of the day came, dragged on, and then finally started to give way to sunset, he had made his way to the big lake in the middle of the valley. He wasted no time once arriving, and immediately trotted into the lake, stopping only once his shoulders were submerged. He had to paddle to keep his head above water, but as the cool liquid saturated his fur and moved over his warm skin, he released a long, relieved sigh. It was a bit before he caught Merrit's scent but when he did, he immediately pulled himself out of the water. He was eager to see his cousin. It had been a full day at least since he talked to anyone, something that didn't always bother him but had today. Once he reached the bank and stepped on to the sand, he shook out his coat and quickly made his way up to where the scent trail wafted from. He offered only a quiet chuff as he moved to settle down beside his cousin. His gaze lifted to the sky. Soon there would be stars and it would he time for his nightly ritual of studying them. RE: I moved to california in the summertime - Merrit - June 27, 2021 Merrit waited in the coolness of the evening without worry that Kallik would come. He had worried at first, when they had first dispersed from one another to better scout these lands. But even now as the sun sank down to sleep, and Merrit caught sight of his cousin's silhouette against the fiery sky, he remembered how much of a man Kallik had become. That it had already been a year since Nanook had given her life to save them, to save him. He met his cousin with a chuff in response, and affection in his eyes, as he let his gaze follow Kallik to where he settled beside him on the ground. Merrit took a long moment to appraise him, this boy, now man, who had been his charge when they'd set out, and had become his equal, much like he imagined a brother might be. "What do you watch for, when you look at the stars?" he asked, turning his own face towards the darkening sky. |
