it takes three days for him to reach the core of the weald. here he hunts for a meal to fill his belly but also for signs of the wounded man's missing ones. he recites their description to himself so that he does not forget, as well as to pass the time.
having followed a moss-hewn path deep among the ferns, orthaon looks more akin to a shadow himself. the sky is clear and yet the sunset does not permeate the network of branches around him. there is a wetness to the air beneath the boughs. as night comes he knows it will be uncomfortably cold, but he will press on.
