the storm lingered over blackwater for days. the sea came alive; the heavens rumbled and churned with inkclouds against a flickering lightning-cracked sky. icy rain battered the islands day and night, the sky weeping and raging at the wolves below.
intermittently, the skies would clear, and a few moments of warm sunlight would bleed through the dark wisps of cloud. these moments were all too brief — and soon, the rain would begin to turn to ice.
the blackwater islands would tolerate no weakness in their inhabitants.
