Retiring in Florida - Lazarus - January 07, 2022

From afar, the creature might have passed as a bear. His head was low, thick earthen ruff shielding his features as he took in the scents trailing the plains. A tail emerged from the mass of wild dark fur, and the creature took a step forward with a gait far too smooth and skulking for any bear. No, it was a lone wolf who prowled the plains.
Heat-scent had woven itself over the land. Lazarus knew this place would be fruitful. A sharp puff of air escaped his nostrils, and he lifted his head. The proud wolf howled, a clear message in his words. He traveled in search of a mate; a strong woman to bear strong children, and claim a home alongside him. His days of fighting in wars without end for masters who cared nothing for him were done.

men.

they all called and sung with promises thick in their words, but she had never stuck around to see any promises through. yet she could not ignore the call of them all the same. always intrigued enough to push onward into whatever area lured her next.

so when she found the giant bear of a man, she laid dark eyes upon him freely. her tail swished behind her in a friendly manner. a soft, lilting sound built in her throat as she called out back to him from some yards away.

An answering call came to him on the wind. Lazarus snorted and turned toward the sound immediately, tail flagging confidently. Excitement turned his veins to liquid flame, and his mind raced with the possibilities. He had only been searching a short time, and found it difficult to believe he would find a suitable mate already.
His hopeful speculation died as his eyes caught on the mud-streaked figure of a frail wolf. A small wolf. His lip curled in disgust, eyes hard on her. I called for a strong woman, Lazarus spat, words dripping contempt, and turned away to leave. How disappointing.

sorry to make your thread so short ;;

how tired she grew of tired men with their sour attitudes.

how tired she grew of the cursed grip of this land, peppered with grief of mothers and venom of men.

her eyes waved away from him as he turned to leave. she would chase no such man. but her gaze, it did wander out to where she knew the coast laid. where there was the grief of erzulie still fresh in her heart. where the words of sapphique were spoken. perhaps, she thought, it was better to be heartbroken with woman than entertain bitter men.

so she too would depart, swift to cut towards the sea.
