chamaco - Silvertongue - February 25, 2022

belen did not dare stray so far from akashingo. when she reached the edge of the lake the girl whirled to ensure that the mesa was still hale and massive in the distance. the glassblue of her eyes darted about the water's edge, but she was exhilarated to have come so far. she was searching for something that might amuse the prince, but soon found herself distracted by the brief chase of a vole.

With the lengthening of days Hollis felt more comfortable wandering. She was safer giving in to her wanderlust despite the frigid air. Patches of ice clung to the shores of the lake, but there was plenty of room to get a drink; she lowered herself to the water's edge and quenched her thirst. A flurry of movement gave her pause, her ears turning toward the noise. She rose to her feet, swiping her snout with her tongue to catch the water droplets  lingering there, before turning away from the water.

A grey female, with a shock of blue eyes, chased some small creature not far from where Hollis stood. The dark-furred woman watched her in amusement, but made no effort to announce her presence just yet.

the vole escaped. belen whirled in a tight circle as she looked for it. the girl huffed in annoyance. when she looked up she was not alone. a slender wraith of chocolate gossamer stood close. the first thing belen noticed was the other's beauty. pharaoh enjoyed such things and gifts helped the giver rise higher in his ranks and his esteem. "are you better at hunting than me?" belen laughed, approaching with an airy wave of her tail. "i have not been so far from home."

the small prey, a vole as it turned out, disappeared, garnering an noise of annoyance from its predator. the pair of wolves were at such a distance that it would seem impossible for the gray woman not to notice Hollis at this moment, and so she did. the darker female emitted a light chuckle at the question but didn't answer it. it was quite possible that she was a better hunter. in her pack of origin, this was the co-rank she had prepared herself for, though she had departed before completing her training. from merely witnessing the simple chase of a vole, a creature so small and difficult to capture for hunters with all levels of skill, Hollis had no hope of judging the other's proficiency, either.

the next question did pique her interest. she canted her head slightly. where is home? she wondered. she thought she had scented a pack near the lake, but she could have been mistaken.

"do you see that mesa?" belen said, gesturing toward the great red palace which rose above the plains. "that is akashingo." her lashed eyes turned back to the lovely woman. she was curious as to whether the other was a loner or a pack wolf. but at this closeness she did not scent others. "i am hunting for our prince. his leg is injured and he must rest a lot. so i am finding things that might amuse him." belen grinned. "but as you can see, i am not so skilled at it."
