weeks passed. coraline, still in the most painful stages of recovery, had grown bitter. her wounds were deep and slow to heal; infection ebbed and flowed in them like the tide. she longed for her freedom.
visits by her siblings remained rare bright patches in the dark monotony of her days. coraline's mood lifted the moment she laid eyes on mireille, a smile breaking through the gloominess of her expression. she brought news of more siblings.
tell me,she urged, reaching out to kiss her sister's cheek. had their mother given them more sisters, or brothers? guiltily, coraline hoped for sisters.

"a boy, quennell. an anot'er sister, aminthe." she returned the kiss and then looked worriedly over coraline's body. she did not understand healing the way that her mother and sobo and even chacal did. but surely her sibling should be able to soon get up and rejoin them?
