Oh my heart, it's a rock in the gutter. - Nazli - June 22, 2022 Tags for reference, anyone else who might wanna show her hunting, ecology, naturalism, or anything else can always reply! Figured now that she's older she might be given bigger duties.
the girl had woken early to prepare for lessons with @Tavina, as was the usual routine for her, only, the woman was not in her quarters. Instead it was another fellahin; they led her out of the palace and to a cleared ridge. Nazli had never been this far from the caverns before; she was invested in everything she saw, as any child might be while on a field trip. once at the ledge, she was told to wait. that she was expected to stay there until hemet @Qiao or mazoi @Sokha came to collect her. there was no telling how long she would be left there to observe the rising of the sun; but she would do it happily enough, as it was required of her. what lessons would she be privy to out here? RE: Oh my heart, it's a rock in the gutter. - Jawahir - June 23, 2022 It was rare for Jawahir to leave the palace. They had stolen from the catacombs briefly to stretch their legs, find some peace where the sun lived; there, they found the lilac-furred girl that had been born of their own loins. Foolish girl. She had the whole world spread before her — freedom, if she'd only take the initiative. Jawahir drew close to where the girl lingered, a plan forming. They waited for the girl's attention to drift the other direction before charging up the hill. Oh!Fur puffed, heart racing, they looked to have been frightened by someone or something. There you are, child. While Nazli was distracted by the sudden sight of another fellahin, Jawahir gathered a scattering of plant stalks and debris from the dried plants around them, tucking them neatly in to a pile as if they were always there. The lord, he is furious with you. Take these; oh, my, you weren't supposed to meet me out here, I was to come to you! Here, girl, hurry! Take these and go, they are needed by the mazoi at their barracks. All a lie; but it was fun to wind her up and watch her go. RE: Oh my heart, it's a rock in the gutter. - Nazli - June 23, 2022 All at once Nazli was set upon by a figure! They would have known the scent of their mother anywhere, even if she had been taken from Jawahir at a very tender age; it was perhaps the first time since then that Nazli was in their company, and it was stunning. The meshkhenet was frantic; Nazli's own coat puffed out, her tail stood tall and then carried an erratic twitch as she tried to calm herself, but couldn't. Jawahir had a bundle of something! It must have been from Tavina. Oh, oh, yes, of course—!To the barracks? She had learned a little of the territory layout with Tavina as her tutor, but int he heat of the moment all fact flew out of her head. Nazli gathered the bundle to herself and once lifted, looked every direction, spinning. She turned confused eyes upon Jawahir and then moved out, wanting only to be useful, and not recognizing the trick that was being pulled. RE: Oh my heart, it's a rock in the gutter. - Jawahir - June 23, 2022 What a useless child. To think, someone so mindless and obedient had come out of themselves; it was clearly the father that this one took after! The fellahin knew nothing about the man. They kept to the ruse that it was Ramesses' seed that spawned both this fool and their addled brother, just another secret held tightly in the dark. Away Nazli went. One direction, then a different one, utterly frazzled. It might take her hours or perhaps the entire day to find the barracks but it would keep the girl outside and in the open air, where she could at least experience the life beyond Akashingo; even if that meant toiling away in the shadow of the palace rather than its hungry belly. With a low laugh carried in their chest, Jawahir turned and began to trail back towards the palace proper — and to the maggots sleeping in the catacombs who were due for a feeding. RE: Oh my heart, it's a rock in the gutter. - Nazli - June 28, 2022 Nazli did not realize she was alone until it was too late. She'd turned to look over her shoulder and saw that Jawahir had slipped away. She carefully placed the bundle of things on the ground and began to inspect it. Most of it looked like trash from the drylands; some of the fronds were like wide pieces of herbs that Tavina sometimes had Nazli fetch in the storehouse. These are — none of these are for anything. The girl murmured to herself as she investigated. There were pieces of other plants that Nazli had only ever seen in the wellspring when cleaning it. The small bolt of fur that wrapped the bundle was very old and unwashed, and it reminded her of the queen's quarters. What is all this...?And why would the barracks need it? Oh, she shouldn't dawdle so long. It wasn't her place to question, so she bundled it back up and hurried on. |
