Our Ma was a brilliant wee woman, wasn't she? - Reyes (Ghost) - July 10, 2022

Due west of the new rendezvous site that @Teya had found for @Sorana, there were cliffs. They weren't too drastic for an adult but Reyes didn't like the look of them anyway, given how his daughter was growing and how dangerous a fall could be.

He'd spent the morning trying to get some fresh breakfast for her. That had led him on a separate hunt for a decent pathway westward along the rise, which he found eventually, and there Reyes came across a wooded area full of aspens; the trees were sporting brilliant red, yellow, and green leaves.

Something shifted between them and when Reyes snapped to attention, he watched as a small deer vaulted away. He'd been too distracted to chase after it and missed his chance entirely. With a sigh he turned, looking back the way he'd come, and the higher vantage point afforded quite the view.

she had been tracking the deer.
the animal had unfortunately evaded teya, and she had pursued all the same. there was not a chance she could take it alone, but onward she came anyway.
she drew in her breath quickly at the beauty of the place. by now the raven had noticed she was not alone. reyes was above her, looking out across the land they claimed.
a thousand thoughts went through her mind.
she settled only to look at the foliage herself, hoping for peace in the aspen woods.

Teya blended in to the forest well enough that Reyes wouldn't have seen her, had she not moved enough. She was watching the trees too. The leaves haloed her in reds, greens, golds; even the light that found its way through the branches seemed to be attracted to her.

It felt like he hadn't seen her in months. They'd worked hard to keep Sorana fed and safe, and now in this new rendezvous they would continue to do that, but it felt different since the lake. Since their fight. Since they'd almost lost everything.

He clears his throat so that she isn't surprised by his arrival, not aware that she'd already spotted him, and began the careful climb down the rise.

she heard him and flicked her ear in answer. reyes deserved more than that, teya decided. she turned her profile toward him and offered a small, wan smile that kept to her lips.
historically, words ruined everything between them. teya was content to keep silent. she turned her eyes out upon the sights once more and inhaled a good breath.
reyes' nearness did not make her so tense. she no longer anticipated a fight; so long as she said nothing to upset the delicate balance of their little, proverbial boat.
