But I give in so easy - Fennec - August 10, 2022 Fennec had found her way to the oasis and walked the ring of it, feeling the plant growth that already had settled in there and letting her pads sift through the soil to get a sense for it. What she found wasn't exactly promising. There was growth, and she understood initially why Towhee had suggested the area. She could hear running water nearby, and the space was even and open. But there was a downside to that. The soil here was sandy and the tough grass that grew from it likely didn't need much encouragement. Making anything of value grow here would be far more trouble than it was worth. Fennec's mind went back to the forest. It wasn't nearly as lush as the Bramblepoint had been, but it still had to have better soil than this. The plants she'd grown there hadn't needed much sun, and it would be shaded. Besides that.... the forest was the closest place she felt to home, here. Being in the open like this had always left her feeling too exposed. Mereo had precious little tree cover. After walking the trees and following the small river that cut through it, Fennec eventually settled on a spot. It was near the wall of the canyon, but out enough that rainfall would reach it. It rested near the river, close enough for her to either bring water or eventually (if she sorted a method) irrigate it somehow. Fennec stepped slowly along the perimeter of it as she planned, thinking of the plants she'd want to bring here. Maybe some of her Bramblepoint ones still lived - she could go back and find out. She would leave the poisons for now, but eventually... maybe she could find a place, amongst the canyon walls, where she could tuck those away and secure them from reach. She missed tending to both. Perhaps this could work. |
