there wasn't a whole lot siku understood about the politics of mereo, if he was to be honest. and he was nothing if not an honest boy.

but what he did understand was that mama seemed to be needed here more and more. which left siku with a lot of free time to...do whatever it was the kids around here did. most of the imperator's kids seemed to follow soldiers around. if siku were to guess, he should probably be doing that too.

however he did his best to avoid the trainings of the soldiers.

instead, he lounged at the tablinum and enjoyed the sights and sounds there today. wondering if anybody might come by for some healing.

Fennec's garden was slowly coming together and turning into something that might be capable of actually keeping the plants within it alive. She worked on it most days, but that wasn't the only thing that had kept her away from here.

She knew that she could speak with whatever healer they had here and offer her help, but for some reason, it cut at her pride thinking about it. She thought that, after Eljay left, she was done playing second choice. She figured that by now she'd have established herself somewhere and had a reputation of her own. It didn't matter that healing wasn't necessarily something she loved - it still stung as another plan she'd failed in achieving.

Eventually Fennec convinced herself to at least meet the woman. If Aquene was terrible, then she could forget about it and keep her separate stores to herself. She approached the area (she forgot the name) where she knew the den was. As she approached the entrance, the sound of running water nearby triggered an entirely unwelcome memory of another den near a small waterfall. Fuck, maybe it was for the best. No way she'd want to live here.

Anyone here? She didn't bother trying to find the entrance and poke her head in. If anyone was there, they'd let her know where it was soon enough.

he had been about two minutes away from falling into an unplanned nap time. then a voice called out.

"anyone here?"

which meant it definitely wasn't his mama come to see him, nor papa. except he didn't know this voice at all and that caused him to stir upright at once. blinked sleep from his heavy eyes as he stumbled to the mouth of the medic den.

hi! yes! do you need healings? he fumbled out the words, wondering if that was what his mama would say.

No was nearly the automatic reaction she went with. This wasn't Aquene, clearly, but was instead likely one of her kids. There was another small ache, this time a little deeper than she'd felt with Towhees, when she thought about it. Must be nice, to have kids to teach your trade to. She loved Killer with everything she had, but he'd latched onto other things growing up. Other mentors.

Maybe she should just find a stranger next year. At least then she'd have something.

Sure. What do you have that can cure blindness? Fennec asked, as genuinely as she could manage. She didn't want to dwell on the things that felt worse so instead she'd settle for fucking with this kid a bit. See how serious he was about healing, or if he was more interested in acting the part.

tag for reference, let me know if nothing assumed is okay <3

"sure. what do you have that can cure blindness?"

mama @Aquene had not taught him that one yet. and it showed in the embarrassed look in his eyes, hidden heat in his cheeks. but he was determined to do his best, just like his mother would. so his toes flexed at the ground for a moment, before he stumbled back into the den.

there were plenty of plants he shouldn't touch, far less he could touch.

he also hadn't had a lesson in what things could be heal and what couldn't be healed — or what blindness was.

he bumbled back out in a moment with marigold and lavender. hardly understand the deeper uses for each besides what he had heard following around his mother.

mama says this is good for uuuun-unfections? and mama says this one can be nice for calmin'. it's my favorite. he hummed softly.

is your blindness unfected?

he proceeded to pronounce things wrong.

I don't think so. I don't feel sick, and that's usually how you tell, right? She asked, leading. She couldn't tell what plants he'd brought for her 'infection' from where she was standing but she could definitely imagine.

What other conditions would he bring up? She could just outright say it's a curse like usual, but she got the feeling he was more skeptical than the usual naive pups she dealt with. Besides... she wanted to see where this led.

Eventually she would relent, but in the course, she would correct some of his uses and suggestions to better suit the things they treated. It was a way of teaching, if a bit of a backwards one - if it couldn't be fun for her, why would she bother?
