hold her down with soggy clothes and breezeblocks - Meadow - October 24, 2022

AW. She's outside the borders.
It occurred to the silver lady that her anxiety was perhaps rooted so deep within her it flowed through her veins like a poison now. Her day had started with being more adventurous than average—winter would be upon them soon, and Meadow wanted to be as prepared for the season as best she could, and so she scoured for any plants and herbs that could be of use—all the while mapping the surrounding land to her mind.

What she hadn’t expected was the clustered scent of a pack, and her gaze squinted slightly in thought, her pace slowing to an absolute stop. A border. But who’s? Upon her joining, she had been in the understanding that only a few packs were on this mountain… Mereo, Epoch and Paleo.

But this was not where she had believed Paleo to be, and scent affirmed to her it was not Mereo.

She licked her lips, nose down, taking in the scent that trailed to their home, keeping mind to keep a fair distance from their borders. She was torn between beckoning a leader or simply returning to Epoch—the day was still warmed by the sun, the grey clouds above indicating the weather would hold for now.

Ash Paw was upon a patrol when she came across a wolf cloaked in honey and ice. There was something to be said for the she's wolf's manners as seh stayed away from the pack lands. Anyone with a nose could tell it was new, and she was being polite.

So without further ado, the she wolf witch moved boldly forward and spoke to be heard. You there you approach Basilica. What brings you to our borders?

Then Ash would wait, watching and waiting. Wondering. She didn't know of many packs nearby, but perhaps there were some now, and they had made a miscalculation when they had entered here. Though the caches themselves were well worth it. The wonders that had lain within just in herb life.

The she-wolf who greeted her had a pair of bright blue eyes that Meadow felt instantly drawn to. A coat of tawny and soot cloaked her, while the white only added to her exotic appearance. In turn, Meadow felt about as mundane as she could, and she gave a shyer smile as she shifted to a more respectful posture.

“I was looking for herbs for the winter when I came upon your borders,” she responded honestly, keeping their conversation easy for now. “I wasn’t aware a pack was in this direction of the mountain—I’m sorry.”

Ash Paw smiled kindly. Ears forward as the other spoke. She was a healer like her. She wanted to help, but the simple fact was thia was @Ingrams domain.

Ash titled a head. I am a healer as well. What pack are you from?

She wanted to offer a trade of sorts but not sire how. What did the pack have to offer to them if Ash Paw allowed entry into her caches.

What were you looking for?.

No need to apologize you minded the borders well.

The question quickly shifted to which pack she was from, and here was where Meadow felt a stammer in her heart. Did she offer information so freely? Epoch was good natured—there would be no benefits in trying to be discrete. It would only seem deceitful.

“Epoch, also from the mountains,” she offered, nodding in the direction of her home. As for what she sought, the question surprised her, and she considered, her muzzle canting. “Nothing in particular—anything and everything. I’m hoping to prepare for the winter,” she offered, a small smile tracing at her lips as her honeyed eyes swept over the other. “Basilica is new, I assume?”

Ash Paw was still new to the tidings of pack lives. So it wasn't strange to her to ask such a thing.

She took the name to heart and made a mental note of gwneral areacto tell ingram.

Ash lifted her gaze and briefly looked towards homw then gave a decisive nod.

I recently harvested mint and feverfew or chamomile to some. I will share somw with you with a promise to share knowledge perhaps in the future?

Yes fairly new a place for thos who wish a home. Religious and non.

“Chamomile would be great!” She could barely contain the words as they rushed past her muzzle—suddenly, the potential to ease some of her anxiety practically falling into her paws. “Mint, as well,” she paused, considering, knowing both she would be able to dry out and store.

“I can offer some willow bark in return, if needed. Or some marigold.”

It seemed their newest neighbor was simply looking for a life of simplicity and safe harbor. She would need to relay her findings when she returned.

Ash Paw nodded. One moment.

Small paws swiftly ran to a nearby medicinal cache.

She came running back with a small bundle in her maw wrapped in leaves.

here you go. And i will take both.

Ash Paw lay it near Meadow with a small smile amd a tail wage. I added some rapsberry leaves too.

The she-wolf scurried away and Meadow realized she meant to do the trade right now—her eyes widening as the girl came back with a generous amount of herbs. “Oh!” Her tail gave a sweep through the air, her muzzle tilting up at the fresh scent of the mint. “I would need to go back home to get mine—if you give me a few days, I can come back with the trade and then we can swap?”

Then, curious, because she had never heard of the use, she added—“What do you use raspberry leaves for?”

Ash Paw shook her head. No need to worry about right now trading. I was simply making sure you got it. You may take it today. I have much.

She wanted to talk with Ingram about possibly extending an olive branch to this she wolf, and allowing her trading in her pack lands with plants they were so abundant. She felt they could figure out something to do between the two packs.

Pregnancy. It helps ease the labor process, and makes sure there is no excessive bleeding after. My grandma told me of it. She was a midwife.

“Thank you,” she whispered, the appreciation in her voice as she nosed at them. “I will return soon with your half of the bargain, after I return and check in with my pack.” She would then also discuss with her leaders of her meeting—perhaps persuade one of them to gather a soldier from Mereo or two and meet in a neutral place. If an alliance could be made, all the better.

Pack politics, as much as she disliked them, were becoming more and more apparent in her day to day tasks.

“That will be useful for the upcoming season,” she agreed, realizing with a certain lingering dread that soon, the heat would be on many of the she-wolves. She paused, glancing up sharply, then. “I hate to ask for more—but have you happened to see anything to suppress a heat, yet? If you point me in a direction, I can gather it myself…”

RE: hold her down with soggy clothes and breezeblocks - RIP Ash Star - October 25, 2022

Ash Paw gave a sharp nod. I look forward to it. I will also talk with Ingram. You may take his name to your leaders as the pack leader here. He is a seer and warrior.

She shifted and looked around her. The next question causing her pause, and a frown to work it's way out while she thought.

I haven't though, the raspberry leaves there will help with some delay though it will not completely stop it. I may have some mustard seeds. There was some Queen Annes Lace, though be careful with that one, it resembles hemlock. mugwort. I don't have mugwort. Though that is more to be taken after conception.

She said the last part quietly, trying to convey what the she wolf would understand. Since the sands of time first rose, females were forced to find alternate ways of getting rid of something that was a blessing for many, and a curse for just as much.

Only a delay—she hummed softly, internalizing her thoughts on the matter. Did she need to suppress this year? There had been seasons when her heat had never even come to pass—almost as if stress had subdued it naturally.

And… would it be the worst thing, if it did come, this year?

She crushed the thought, her lips pulling back in sad understanding to the woman’s words. “I’ll keep an eye out,” she mused, disliking the topic but knowing the emotional well-being could come to play here. “This is perfect for now. Thank you.” She paused, muzzle canting. “Arsenio and Tamar are the leaders of Epoch. I can bring these to my pack and return with our bartered items—and perhaps if you think your leader would be interested, perhaps a promise to meet?”

RE: hold her down with soggy clothes and breezeblocks - RIP Ash Star - October 25, 2022

Ash Paw dipped her head and nodded. During the heat season. I usually just hid away for the 3 to 5 days. A meditative retreat. Though that is not always the way of things.

Ash paw sighed and shifted, forcing herself to let teh topic drop. It was saddening, maddening and she had no idea what to do this year, surrounded by men.

Ash smiled again. I would like that. And I will try and find some of the other herbs for you too. It has been good to meet you.

Suddenly like a thunderclap she realized. They had never shared names. Oh goodness goddess. I apologize. I'm Ash Paw.

She wagged her tail

“Hiding it is,” she agreed casually, a light laugh following the words. It helped that Epoch was primarily female—it certainly did not help when their neighbors and allies, Mereo, held quite a few eye-catching soldiers.

“I’ll be back soon,” she promised, her tail giving a wave. Bending down to scoop up the herbs, the exclamation of the other drew her up sharply, and this time, her laugh was more genuine. “Sorry—I was mostly excited to find another healer. I’m Meadow,” she offered in return, logging the girls name as to another important part of her leaders report.
