How long ago was his last meal?
It didn't cross his mind that the crunchy cereal-adjacent kibble might be his last last meal, only that his belly ached.
At least he had found shelter! The woods were more crowded than he would've liked, but the dog did enjoy the new smells, and he had even found a stick.
(More like a branch; it was much too wide to be of use, and certainly hindered his passage.) This he carried proudly, with one end dragging or the other, and refused to put it down even when obstacles forced him to turn and twist and leverage himself awkwardly.
