She decided to stay another day. He had not been unkind to her, and when she awoke, the itch had returned. The earth was still damp with the rains of yesterday, and she flexed her toes in the soil. Dirt stuck to her fur where she had lain on her side, and her eyes searched the immediate area. It was foggy, the sun pulling moisture from the earth.
The nameless man was not here, but she did not think he had gone far.

the frogspawn returned — with frogs, meaty toads which thumped fat and dead to the ground in front of the woman.
colt didn't take lovers. but she was something to him. she was here anyway.

He instructed her to eat the fat frogs, but her hunger was not for food. She was sick of being told what to do, where to go, whom to marry. Some part of her had thought that would solve the hole in her heart, but it had only widened it. This stranger had not filled that hole — HEHEH — and he would not fill it with food, either. Diantha brushed past the frogs, her muzzle coming beneath his chin, seeking warmth in another primal embrace.

He acquiesced, and Diantha found a smile. She thought of the former pharaoh during the height of their act.

Again, he insisted that she eat. Her stomach grumbled, and she ate not because he told her to, but because it had been more than a day since her last meal. The meat was cold and strange, much unlike the lavish food she had been given in Akashingo, but she wolfed it down all the same. She had lived on far less for far longer.
When she had finished, she licked her lips and studied the strange, ugly man. He might have been pretty once upon a time, but it was long ago.

"yew wanna keep suppin' like that, foller along," he drawled to her, though now his scarlet eyes roved over her with the same thoughtfulness.
suppose she took with his cubs? suppose she kept em? suppose she tried to find him?
not an uncommon story for mister briggs of a thousand names, and most adopted to duck angered husbands or women got in the family way.
well. he'd been honest, at least.
