feeling so good right now till we crash and burn somehow. - Penn - May 06, 2023 lmao at the way this song starts out and what this thread is about
Penn had been sleeping better since @Fennec had randomly started to join him. The way he slept that had been better even than that. Even though they'd been close to each other during the night, there had always been some, small distance between them. But after the *AHEM*, we'll call it their midnight rendezvous? But yeah, after that, there was no space. He woke up curled around her, with her neatly tucked against his chest. And, while he 100% expected to get yelled at for something the moment she also woke up, he was going to just enjoy it while he could. He didn't move when he first awoke, even though he could feel the sun beginning to warm his fur and knew it was time. He was comfortable and he felt like there was a spell around them he was reluctant to break. But, he realized he felt something odd on his fur that wasn't the sun, and there was a scent heavy in his nose that was familiar, but unexpected. So, he opened his eyes and lifted his head to look around, spotting the source of the scent almost immediately—small, white flower petals lying all over the ground and all over them like a blanket. "Did it snow last night?" Penn asked aloud, totally forgetting that Fennec may still have been sleeping and that speaking was disruptive to such an activity. He turned his head to look backwards over his shoulder. He spotted the gnarled, flowering tree that was shedding its petals all over them without much trouble, even though it took that very moment to drop one on the tip of his nose as a distraction. RE: feeling so good right now till we crash and burn somehow. - Fennec - May 06, 2023 Closer than she'd been to anyone in months, Fennec got some of the best sleep she had since even before Mereo went under. She was still asleep when he woke up and didn't herself until he spoke. Something about snow? What the fuck? What? She was more confused than anything else, but then last night hit her and she forgot to care about what he meant. Right. That... happened. It did happen? There was no way she'd dreamed that. Fuck, she hoped she didn't dream that, and it was actually comforting to know there was something more embarrassing than the reality of what she'd dragged him into last night. Nothing wrong with knowing what I wanted. Just like there was nothing wrong with following his lead now and pretending like it never happened. Her ears pricked up but she stayed where she was, tucked against him. If neither of them moved maybe he wouldn't start asking questions she didn't know if she had the answers to. RE: feeling so good right now till we crash and burn somehow. - Penn - May 06, 2023 Penn glanced back at her as she awoke and responded to his question with a very simple one of her own. He frowned for a second before recognition dawned on him. "Oh right, you're blind," he commented casually before explaining, "There's a tree near us covered in flowers and the petals are falling all over the place." He reached over to her then, brushing a few off of her temple with his nose. He lingered there for a moment before shifting his weight again and settling his head onto her back again. Unlike Fenn, he wasn't thinking all that much about what had happened that night. Not that he wasn't thrilled about it, which he absolutely was, but because he was hungry and he couldn't quite decide what he wanted more—to go find food or to stay in this very comfortable position and possibly go back to sleep. RE: feeling so good right now till we crash and burn somehow. - Fennec - May 06, 2023 She made an annoyed sound as he stated the obvious, but it wasn't genuine, and she didn't pull away as he brushed petals from her pelt and then rested his head back down. She also didn't miss the way he lingered, or the traitorous way her stomach fluttered when he did. She'd fallen for, and forced herself to get over, Penn more times than anyone should. I really am crazy. Especially when she realized he wasn't going to mention it and a part of her was fucking disappointed. She'd mostly been hoping he wouldn't, for obvious reasons, but since that also meant he considered it a casual nothing, she had the audacity to be hurt on some level. Absolutely, beyond reason, crazy. I'm the blind one, and your first thought was snow? Maybe I should find lunch today. You might bring back a rock thinking it's a rabbit.A few problems with that statement, obviously, but she fired it off with confidence anyway. It was too bad she didn't have her raven friends here or she might have even been able to make good on that offer - she hoped they were doing well, wherever they'd flown off to. Without them, she had a 50/50 shot at either surprising something slow or snagging a bird before it could make a getaway. Anything she had to chase was an absolute no-go if he held her to it, but that didn't mean she wouldn't attempt to show up his frog. RE: feeling so good right now till we crash and burn somehow. - Penn - May 07, 2023 Penn laughed softly at her comment. It was nice to be teased like this again. It felt so natural, so comfortable. So easy. In ways that it hadn’t been in such a long time. Penn had had plenty of “morning afters” in his life, but never with someone who made him feel like this. He shifted his head to nuzzle into her neck, settling his muzzle comfortably into the space between her cheek and her shoulder. ”That explains why I’ve always had such an easy time catching rabbits…” he commented thoughtfully, ”Here I thought everyone must be stupid slow to think they were so fast.” RE: feeling so good right now till we crash and burn somehow. - Fennec - May 07, 2023 She closed her eyes as he nuzzled her neck, that same fluttering filling her as she smiled and let her cheek rest against him. This was all she wanted. Someone who, good days or bad, it didn’t matter - they’d get through as long as they could spend every morning waking up like this. She smoothed the fur near her muzzle. Its probably an easy mistake, I’m sure everyone makes it. We’ll start you off with something easy. I’ll chuck some rocks and you can practice telling if they’re birds. She snorted lightly with a laugh imagining it. Her teaching Penn anything about hunting was a hilarious thought. Getting to toss rocks at him? Bonus fun. RE: feeling so good right now till we crash and burn somehow. - Penn - May 07, 2023 Penn let his mind fill with the mental image she described. It was a very amusing one, though he was certain he wasn’t picturing it the same as she was. In his head, he was sitting with his eyes close listening as rocks hit the ground all around him. None actually hit him, though, since… well, he could only assume Fennec had terrible aim. ”Smart,” Penn commented with a grin, ”Is that how you learned?” He would keep the mental image to himself. RE: feeling so good right now till we crash and burn somehow. - Fennec - May 08, 2023 No. Turns out I’m a natural born hunter, and I figured out pretty quickly the birds are the ones that sing and have wings.Fennec smirked at her implication that this was too advanced for Penn to grasp. There was actually a time when she’d wanted to be a hunter more than about anything else, back when she’d refused to accept that anything about her life had to be different. She’d tried, with Fig’s help, and occasionally she’d at least been able to help him to corner something. The thought of her brother dampened the moment a little, turning her towards wondering where he was now. Still in Epoch? Maybe. He’d probably like it there, with mom and dad and everyone else. Well, there was one positive at least to her and Killer picking Moonspear instead. At least now he had that option without her getting in the way. I can demonstrate. And if I miss, you can’t laugh, because it’s super fucking rude to laugh at a blind girl.Fennec lifted her head, but didn’t untangle herself and get to her feet just yet. She could use something to distract from her sudden sidetrack and breakfast seemed like the perfect excuse. RE: feeling so good right now till we crash and burn somehow. - Penn - May 08, 2023 Another laugh rumbled from his chest. He leaned over to nip at her ear for that one, though he had nothing to say to dispute it. She'd won that round, but he resolved to best her at their next verbal spar. The thought that they'd get to have another warmed him. He hoped to have several hundred more. And he would absolutely be keeping score every time. He shifted then to start brushing more of the flower petals off of her shoulders and back. Mostly just because he wanted to touch her more. He paused at her comment, his ears perking as he grinned. "You would rather go hunt birds than eat the frog I caught for you?" he replied in mock offense, "You know, you're really starting to make me feel like you don't appreciate your gift." He glanced around then, searching for the frog where he'd tossed it the night before. He didn't see it anywhere. "The gift which seems to have inexplicably disappeared..." he frowned, "...which is a little alarming." RE: feeling so good right now till we crash and burn somehow. - Fennec - May 09, 2023 Oh, shit… was it really dead? She sniffed around momentarily, then snickered. Maybe it came back for revenge. I’d be careful where you sleep. The idea of a zombie frog stalking Penn was absolutely hilarious. More likely that something ran off with it while they both slept, but that answer was boring so she wasn’t about to settle on it. Undead assassin frog it was. RE: feeling so good right now till we crash and burn somehow. - Penn - May 12, 2023 "I swear it was," Penn said as he continued to scan the ground. There were so many damn petals around, it was hard to see. But he was pretty sure he didn't see a frog-shaped lump of petals anywhere, nor did he see a frog. Her comment distracted him, though. "Oh, I'll be fine," he said, reaching back over to prod her in the temple and plant a little kiss there, "I have you to use as a shield." RE: feeling so good right now till we crash and burn somehow. - Fennec - May 17, 2023 Mmm, nice try. How do you know I didn’t set it after you?She asked, silently reveling in the kiss and enjoying how casually he delivered it. She’d forgotten what it was like to not feel like those gestures were somehow a favor to her. They’d been withheld, and then gifted deliberately, for so long. Couldn’t let things here get too boring. You’re welcome. She nipped lightly at where his nose might be, though she didn’t try too hard to catch her mark and likely missed. It was more for the playful intention than anything else. RE: feeling so good right now till we crash and burn somehow. - Penn - May 19, 2023 Penn gave her a playful growl as a retort, but it fell short after a moment. A thought had just occurred to him and it was quite a distracting one. This was not the first time recently that his kill had been stolen from him when his back had been turned. But it couldn't be the same... could it? He felt her move in for the nip, but didn't move himself. And so, she caught him on the eyebrow instead of his nose—not that he'd had any idea what she'd been aiming for. He tilted his head with another little growl and smushed his forehead into her cheek. He didn't really want to get up and ruin this moment between them, but... No, you know what? It wasn't important enough. "I have a feeling I might know what actually stole it," he said, "And if you're the one who sent it, then you're real damn good because it's been following me around, stealing from me for weeks." He could definitely see her having the dedication to her craft to play such a long game with him. RE: feeling so good right now till we crash and burn somehow. - Fennec - June 10, 2023 She stayed where she was for a long moment, enjoying the closeness of their playful back and forth. She didn’t entirely understand what she was being accused of, but that was fine; she’d still easily take the credit for it. I’m extremely damn good. I thought you’d have figured that out by now. And apparently one of her skills was summoning and commanding random thieves in the night to harass him repeatedly. Fuck yes. I’d say I was sorry but you totally deserve it. Then, unable to help herself, she gave him a quick nip on what she was pretty sure was his nose and darted away. He wouldn’t have much trouble catching her - she wasn’t stupid enough to run flat out on a mountain - and taking his revenge. Being caught was also a lot more fun than escaping, but she wasn’t about to say it out loud. |
