There's light in darkness - Sven - July 08, 2023

@Taktuq @Astrid @Ujurak @Kristjan @Tauris @Skald trusted adults and siblings. Day 12 technically we can open the eyes :D

In the gentle darkness was where the young child of Kvarsheim existed. Eat, sleep repeat a neverending cycle. A routine even as little as he was he took comfort in. But as always life changes things and today was such a day.

Today he was surprised by the simple fact there was no darkness. No instead when he opened his eyes for the first time it was at first, a sharp blinding pain. Because of course why wouldn't he look directly at a sunbeam. It made perfect sense.

Blurry of course it was, but bright too. He caterwauled loud and long. He may have turned blue had he not remembered at the last second to breathe.

RE: There's light in darkness - Astrid - July 10, 2023

Astrid's world, up until this point, had been one of mostly nothingness.
She did not crave sight, for she did not have it. Her days were filled with garbled vocalizations and messily clinging to the warm bodies that surrounded her, mothermilk, the vibrations of voices around her; scurrying grown-ups that fuss over her.
It is with a great shock that her world is, suddenly, a lot less full of nothing. It is everything, albeit blurry and unrefined. She sees her mother for the first time, the pearls of milk that dribble for her to lap up. She sees her brothers, who now had faces to remember. And then, when she looks down, she sees herself; stubby little pink-tinted paws, and she can see when she moves her toes.
She is fascinated at first, before it quickly devolves into confusion. A confusion that, then, turns to anger. A hiss, a yowl, and then a flop over to her side, followed by more yowling! What is this? I don't like it!

RE: There's light in darkness - Sven - July 11, 2023

Startled so swiftly he stops yowling as his sister flops next to him angrily. He can't hear her, but he can feel the vibrations and shes not happy.

Unclear fuzzy baby blue eyes turn towards her as he tries to make out whats going on. He lifts a limb, something heavy at least thats attached to him and flops it around like some white flag hanging out a window.

Distracted he watches his paw move until suddenly sharp blooming pain from his sisters temper tantrum and a paw to his soft little puppy side. He flops towards her attempting to lay paws on her, but where he assumed she was based on the poor eyesight he just taps hard cold ground with a yowl.

RE: There's light in darkness - Ujurak - July 12, 2023

I hope you don't mind me jumping in here!

The beginnings of Ujurak's life was monotonous. Not that he would know the word. After all, apart from eating, squirming, and nestling up to the nearby bodies, he slept a great deal of it.

Today didn't start much different. Two of his siblings, disturbed the air. Vibrations from their cries and flailing limbs drew the little attention he had to give. This was not new to him. Yet there was something beyond his knowledge that guided him. Abiding by an unspoken command, he opened his eyes.

And he saw them.

Baby blue eyes opened and closed rapidly, as though to blink away nearly two weeks worth of sleep. His first instances of sight were unfocused. Through the haze, he now had bodies, pelts, and faces to add to his memory. The new sensation overwhelmed him as he watched his siblings flop and squirm. He knew that they were his siblings by scent of course. But now there was more to them than darkness, scent, and touch.

Touch. Did they feel the same now that he had a new means to sense them? Driven to find out, he begins a vigorous squirm. Writhing to inch himself closer. Little forepaws outstretched to reach them. Inquisitive whines escaping him with each breath.

Ujurak, Sven; she can see them, her brothers. They are marbled and fuzzy and covered in snow and shrouded in the darkness of the den, but nonetheless, she can see them. Ujurak comes closer, inquisitive, investigating; while Sven seems to be distracted by the cold hard ground.
Her yowling fizzles into soft whimpers of frustration as she blinks once, twice, thrice, focusing with all of her little mind on Ujurak. He is gray, the color of sweet smoke, and he reaches out with snow-tipped paws. She coos and grumbles, instinctively waddling closer, inching and wriggling and babbling. Come here! Help me! I'm lost!

RE: There's light in darkness - Sven - July 22, 2023

A commotion and Sven turned his eyes back the other way and saw the blurry outlines of his siblings so he tried to push towards them. It wasn't easy and he made noises deep in his throat, but he'd make it eventually.

RE: There's light in darkness - Ujurak - July 27, 2023

Astrid turned to him and she too began to close the distance. Further invigorated, Ujurak's frosted toes reached her first. Finishing his crawl, he pushed himself to her side and, should she not wiggle away, rest his head across her back.

His little heart beat quickly from the excitement. He could smell her. He could feel her soft fur beneath his chin. He could see that her fur was a dusty brown. She was by his side again. Where she belonged, by his account. He could feel the vibrations as she babbled. Why he babbled to her too! I found you! You're safe! Closing his eyes for several seconds, he felt his heart calm.

He loved her.

Over her shoulder through the haze he could barely make out Sven. His brother's dark coat was like a drop of midnight. Blending into the shadows of the den. His star speckled back and shining paws were what caught Ujurak's eyes. He dragged a clumsy paw across Astrid, reaching to their wayward little brother. Come here! Come here!

He loved him too.

The distance is closed. The soft chest of her brother presses into her cheek, and she can feel his chin pressed against her nape.
She was not lost anymore. He was here.
One paw reaches up to hook his foreleg in her grasp, yanking him closer for warmth she desperately sought. Sven, a darkling mass in the dim light that reached the den, was coming close, now. She doesn't move; merely watches, amazed; an inkling ball of shadowsilk with bright eyes, although hooded. Her initial panic had been whisked away in place of pure fascination. She coos, and slowly, a smile breaks out across her features.
My family, my brothers!

Sven managed to get to them and he collapsed near his sister with a soft grunt and curled paws around her. Closing the newly opened eyes. He was tired. That had been rough. He cooed softly and touched them both with quite paws. Then a giant yawn and he shuffled to get comfortable. Sleep sneaking up on him.
