A wave came crashing toward the land - Shemesh - July 11, 2023 The Sequoia Seashell Crabs! Thousands of crabs!! Backdated to July 8th. Shemesh had traveled too far north in search of the Moonwoman. The gap in the mountains had been mistaken for a valley she was meant to cross, and she’d reached an uninhabited glacier before realizing her mistake. Her nerves had gotten the better of her then; instead of doubling back that night, she’d slept restlessly and journeyed west in the morning to lick her emotional wounds. Now the sun was low, and her legs were tired, and she still didn't feel any better. Embarrassment burned beneath Shemesh’s cheek fur, too hot to be cooled by the salty breeze blowing off the coast. It ached knowing she’d been a deer’s leap from Moonglow, and she’d been too busy playing with one of their pups to realize it. With one paw tucked over her muzzle and the other covering her eyes, she hoped to hide from it for a little while. The rocky sand in front of Shemesh’s nose shifted. She opened one eye, revealing a small, pinkish creature scuttling in front of her snout — a crab! She snapped at it almost without thinking, its shell crunching between her teeth. No sooner had she swallowed her prey, another walked in front of her face. Then two, five, ten, until Shemesh was sure she’d found a seaside feast. She chased down her chitinous prey, filling her stomach with as much crab meat as she could, but their numbers only grew — and Shemesh was only one, increasingly sated dog. It wasn’t long before she realized he may have bitten off more than she could chew. With a crab claw still hanging from her jaws, Shemesh backed away from the pinkish swarm until she stepped on a hapless crustacean behind her. Her ears flattened as she looked for a way off the beach that wasn’t covered in crabs. RE: A wave came crashing toward the land - Heph - July 13, 2023 Heph had returned from further up the coast, keeping a distance from the swarm of crabs that had abated since she first noticed them - in fact they seemed to only grow in number. Clipping at her tail and paws, and crunching uncomfortably in her teeth the one other time she had thought maybe she could manage a larger one. When she noticed a stranger deeper in the bay her first thought was that perhaps it was one of Vaire and Rhaegal's pack but it did not seem so by scent alone. The horde was advancing though she winced stepping on one of the bodies as it crunched uncomfortably beneath her paws. Backing up she found herself in a similar situation as another wolf, a haphazard smile on her lips "Fancy meeting someone nice like you in a place like this." Her gaze shot to the beach which had previously seemed inviting. RE: A wave came crashing toward the land - Shemesh - July 20, 2023 A voice broke Shemesh’s focus, and she almost tripped over her hind paws. A wolf! The dark-furred female must have gotten caught in the crab storm too. Shemesh spit the claw onto the beach and whimpered as it was quickly overrun; the last she saw of it, two crabs were fighting over the meat inside. ”Someone nice like me?” Shemesh laughed nervously. What was this lady talking about? Her zig-zagging path led her to the wolf, and she stopped just short of bumping into her. ”Does this happen a lot?” Shemesh asked. If it did, she’d probably steer clear of the coast until she found her way home — no matter how tasty the crabs were. A full stomach wasn’t worth being covered in hungry crustaceans. RE: A wave came crashing toward the land - Heph - July 21, 2023 Heph took in the stranger's bearing as she approached. The back and forth was a good way to lose most of the crabs and Heph took another step back to allow the both of them out of the fray. One eye she kept on the advancing creatures and the other gave a brief sweep over the other canine. "Not that I know of, I haven't been here the full turn of seasons so it may have to do with the summer but Spring and Winter didn't have anything like it." She supposed summer brought all sorts of things to the surface, but she was not overly familiar. Only time would tell if it was seasonal or rare, like the sheer abundance of other prey in the area. At the other canine's demur Heph's own eyes lit up and she let out a light laugh, teasing slightly although keeping the upturn of her tone questioning and open. "Apologies - was nice the wrong appellation? Would you prefer charming? Or perhaps something to compliment the rarity of your appearance?" Her gaze glittered in the light, seeking. |
