enter the sandman - Kazakir - July 20, 2023

Giddyup! High speeds only on this evening cruise as Kazakir wheeled and skidded around rocks and brush, kicking up sand in his wake. It was all in an attempt to pin down one of them dang rodents that could be found in near every crevice of the ravine. And yet here the dusty feller was, with no morsel to play to the gallery.

But he would not give up! No sir, after all the coyote was just nearing the tip of this thing's spindly worm tail. Snap, snap, BITE. The warm ooze of his prize trickled down his throat as the hunter erupted in a celebratory trot, yip yapping like a true showman.

S'ari was wandering the ravine that day when a coyote whizzed past her suddenly. She spun to follow the coyote's movements. Ah! It was Kusuma's brother, Kazakir. A strangely Tribal name, given that he was not originally a member. S'ari chalked this up to a good omen.

She followed Kazakir at a distance, watching, and then trotted up as he caught the rodent. This is good work! she praised the male. Kazakir is very quick on his paws, yes? Perhaps S'ari and he can hunt more rodents together? She looked at the male with a twinkle in her eye, and then began scenting the air for more little creatures.

The young lady gave him a bit of a startle, but the new member of The Tribe soon relaxed upon seeing who it was. Her praise excited him, Kazakir clamped teeth against the sot flesh of his kill with a twinkle in his own eyes. Setting the prize between his paws, the hybrid licked his chops with a bow of his head. "Of'course! Kazakir would enjoy this time with S'ari. The more the merrier, yes?" His warm gaze beamed over a wide toothy smile, still stained with red success.

He followed her lead, darting this way and that, giving a last glance to the mouse that lay mangled behind. Hopefully no one stole it. "Is S'ari having a good day today?" It was a rather basic inquiry, but still, he wished to get to know her more and this was an obvious place to start.

Well. This was certainly a new one. S'ari had never heard her own speech patterns spoken from the maw of a canid with a strong southern accent. Not that she knew what a "southern" accent even was. She blinked at him for a few moments, and then realized she was staring and shook her head.

She trotted slightly behind him as he led the way on a hunt and answered her question. Oh, S'ari is always having a good day, she said, and grinned at his back. It takes a lot to bring her down. And what of this one, eh? What about Kazakir? Is he happy to be reunited with his sister?"

She sniffed about as she spoke, her eyes sweeping the sands for signs of prey activity.

Kaz would take no time away from his hunt to throw her a glance, but instead flicked his scraggly banner in amusement at her response. Smiling at nothing in particular, the new huntsman kept all of his attention pressed forward. "Kazakir wishes ta learn this from S'ari. Ta always be happy is'a skill worth all the sparkles in the night sky." Of course, he could only assume those held some sort of value. They were magnificent to look at and out of reach. Two sure signs that if you were able to get your paws on one, you'd be one lucky son of a gun.

A mouse skittered far off, wide eyed and twitchy nearing a pool of sweet water to quench its thirst. His long black-tipped tail now lashing side to side, head lowering to align with the rest of his spine, voice soft like the moving sands below their very paws. "Kazakir's mighty happy ta find Kusuma..." His whispers trailed off, the hybrid's mind focused only on the prey that flitted around upwind from them. Peering over a shoulder, having stopped in his tracks, Kaz looked for S'ari. "Does S'ari want this one?"

rolled a 1d20 and got a 9, which is a Partial Success

S'ari had to admit she liked the way this male spoke. To hear her own speech patterns in this new accent was entertaining, if nothing else.

She could tell that he was very focused on the hunt, so she said no more, and simply followed. Soon, a mouse appeared, and she tensed as Kazakir did, waiting for him to go after it. But he did not, asking, instead, if she wanted it.

Without another word, she burst forward and chased after the rodent, who took off immediately. She lunged forward and snapped her jaws. She felt flesh between her teeth... but it was only the tail. She yanked her head back, hoping to pick the mouse up by its tail, and instead, the part of the tail in her mouth simply ripped off. She stood and watched the mouse run off, bleeding, then spit the tail out of her mouth and said, Follow the blood! and took off after her prey.
