XLVIII - Mountain Boulder - September 17, 2023

her sister had become moon runner.

now augur invited @Saturdays Sunrise out into the world, to bird-hunt.

and to earn another name.

feathers fluttered to the ground. he handed the plucked quail to his girl, meaning to have her do the rest and gain an appreciation for the meat this way. it would take more than one of the tiny fowl to fill a belly, and so he stalked off again, muzzle low.

phone post!

Despite her growing body, there is a tenderness shared between father and daughter. It is something that perhaps never becomes lost through the days as she finds her adult nature. Sunrise is quick to appreciate the small bird caught for her, crunching along and even trying to encourage her father to savor in his talents with one of her favorite pieces, the crunchy wing.

Her sister continues to seemingly flourish in her skills, and now sunrise must come to meet these expectations, or perhaps even try to exceed them in her own stubborn and headstrong way.

Sunrise follows her father, taking note of the smells and sounds that seemingly full all her senses. And mimicking his behavior, she too comes to push her nose the ground in search for the scent of birds. Something rustles behind her, and there is a small rumble to her father, unsure if it’s a bird or something else. She comes to stop, turning her head to look over the bundle of bushes that she assumed the sound originated from.

his yellow eyes watched as she carefully searched.

there was time enough for daring. she had savored their first-meat and now he wanted to show her how to catch more.

he followed the line of her eyes toward the shrubbery, pointing with his chin.

go and see.

rolled for success in finding a bird, fail! sunrise does find something else tho! (apologies i like doin hunt stuff randomly <3)

the encouragement she receives from her father causes sunrise to now come to turn on her heel to investigate. what felt strange about the noises is that sunrise assumed most birds remained in the sky. what reason did they have to linger on the ground when the creator gave them wings?

and perhaps her suspicions are reasonable because instead of a hurried flapping noise of an escaping bird, there comes the sound of a small mammalian growl. peering through the leaves for just a second, a juvenile fox stands over his own catch and does not seem afraid of the girl. perhaps if he was wiser, he would have leapt at the chance to flee.

two growing children look at each other, and there is an undeniable tension held within the air. but when sunrise roars and comes to snap her teeth at the bush, the fox sees his demise and now comes to scuttle out to the side, dashing wildly in hopes of a successful escape. and with him, a few birds grow spooked and fly away from the trees above.

no need for apologies! i love the turn this took <3

the sharp tang in the air is fox, and his daughter was quick to sweep down on the animal.

the birds winged away. a young fox, successful a moment before, now raced away from the instinctual bunch of the wolfcub's muscles.

augur, who could have killed the flame-hued animal with a snap, did not react save for a clutch of broad toes in the rich loam.

a feather trailed downward in the moment that grey tooth became flame stalker.

it was a moment in which augur waited to see if his daughter would pursue the fox or turn her attention back to the birds above.

RE: XLVIII - Saturdays Sunrise - September 22, 2023

the spell had been cast, for the blood of a hunter and fighter speed through her veins as sunrise pursues. her sister grows talented in her catches, and perhaps she may be the better match for a bird who requires a light foot and a swift speed. but for a fox, a mere pest of the rise who may bore illegitimate headaches? that would be the job of a protector, and perhaps no better to try than sunrise. everything goes red.

the ground comes flying beneath her, dirt scattering and leaves growing disheveled as sunrise digs her nails into the dirt to turn after the fox. the male goes flying like a bullet in the night, though a stumble on his part would cost him everything. akin to her own chase after bullfrogs, the red beast snags a leg and tumbles into the grass, squealing in panic as the wolf girl is upon him.

a mercy kill would have been his neck. but in her inexperience, sunrise grabs his hind legs in a single swoop and delivers a sickening bite. his running days are behind him as the girl seems unfazed by the permanent damage she has done, rumbling thunder from her throat as the fox bites at her muzzle and leaves punctures of vermillion.

RE: XLVIII - Mountain Boulder - September 24, 2023

flame stalker took to the hapless heels of the fox. augur circled close as his daughter gave a powerful surge and closed her jaws in maiming injury.

blood filled the air; mingled with it was the scent of her own, and her father snapped forward with a speed borne only of protective fatherhood.

mountain boulder's ivories teeth closed at the back of the fox's neck, not to break bone but to pin as a harsh growl vibrated the air between he and flame stalker.

RE: XLVIII - Saturdays Sunrise - September 30, 2023

with her father moving in, sunrise comes to give up the hold of the legs as augur is keen to keep the screeching creature in place.

a puff from her nose as a tongue runs against her bleeding muzzle, the first of many in her growing life. she is keen to watch how he holds the fox away so it cannot grab ahold of him, and now sunrise comes to rumble a question as she motions to his legs.

"we kill it?"

RE: XLVIII - Mountain Boulder - October 08, 2023

kill it.

augur moved to ground the fox deeper, to lay out its vital sides for the strike of flame stalker.

a pest ended was a pest less for the wolves to endure.

his yellow eyes bid her end this one.

RE: XLVIII - Saturdays Sunrise - October 16, 2023

father gave her a command.

moving with instinct, she listened.

the fox is given a merciful death, something quick as sunrise's jaws seek the lifeblood from within. the spitfire creature would lay permanently split open, vermillion forever staining the eyes of the flame stalker.

she rises now, baptized in her original sin but not drowning from its tears of an omnipotent god.

flame stalker looks upon her father, seeking an approving gaze for her first true kill.

RE: XLVIII - Mountain Boulder - October 18, 2023

blood. metal. sweet.

flame stalker gazed up at her father. his yellow eyes were bright with reassurance and pride.

he stepped forward to brush her head with his muzzle, a low growl vibrating the air.

well done, flame stalker.
