i'm starving, darling - Sable - October 09, 2023

Another day, sun rising and warming his coat, another slow fall towards winter.

Sable knew, as all creatures did, that to be alone come the winter was to be a death sentence of the highest order. He raised his head from the protective circle of his tail, shivering briefly at the touch of cold to his nose and his face. He looked around the forest, separating him from the shine of another lake just past the trees. With a grunt and an upward shove of his body, he stood, shook himself free of pine needles and remnants of their cones, and began striding.

Midday became afternoon by the time he made it out of the trees, nose in the air to hunt for water. Green fell from the sky to the reflective surface of lapping liquid, and his mouth watered just a bit to see it. The boy strode until he was up to his knees in water, beginning to drink after a moment of glancing about. Once he drank his fill, he sloshed further, cleaning out his undercoat and the parts of him he could not reach, ducking his head under the water and throwing it back out in a motion akin to a horse or deer.

RE: i'm starving, darling - Ceridwen - October 21, 2023

It had grown notably colder over the past few days and on more than one occasion during the night Dwin woke up shivering in her den. She had contemplated asking co-habit the sleeping quarters with other packmates, but knew that after spending most of her day in their company in some capacity, she needed time on her own to recuperate properly. Therefore she added this inconvenience to the long list of the rest of them and she waited for either spring or a miracle to solve them all at once. At this point in autumn both options seemed equally impossible.

No one had stepped up to take the empty leadership spot - dad being too old to do that and mom having her paws full with him and the kids. Knowing that Teya was not happy and that she would also be likely to leave the caldera at some point, meant that Dwin felt a constant, nagging sense of unease. A lot of what if...s and ways of, how they all could end up badly. She had not changed her mind either - she was in no position to become a leader herself. Occasionally her thoughts drifted towards Moonglow and Dee, wondering, whether she would be willing. But then - she had not been happy here either.
What had happened to Brecheliant? A place her parents, aunts and friends had created. A place for stories and magic, and all the wonderful things in the world. Why had this figurative castle of dreams had eventually lost its charm, magic and slowly began to crumble. It was nothing like, what Dwin remembered it to be. And she did not have the answer of, whether she should be the one to save it, to have it go on. Whether she should be the one to find the magic again. On the other hand... watching her parents and younger siblings play - it did not appear that the Brecheliant was lost to them. Perhaps, it was just Dwin and now Teya, who had been shut out of its doors and banished to the fringes.

It was not a happy thought - one of many that had plagued Dwin's mind recently, therefore seeing a brave fellow splashing around in the freezing cold water as if it was nothing, was a welcome distraction. At the first glance he appeared like a sturdy adult and only upon nearing closer she realized that he was still a kid. "You know, I have heard that for christening you need two people. Doing it on your own is quite novel," she remarked, teasing him in a friendly manner and sitting down at the lake shore.
