Where cats and fears do tread - Ajei - October 30, 2023

@Amaguq

Ajei had left Missus Meerkat with promises to return and that she'd be quite alright because he had gone another way hadn't he the man from before.

However, she found herself among the jagged looming rocks of mountain side as dark fell upon her. And she knew it would be treacherous to continue forward as darkness fell. It would be a journey that must be done in the daylight.

Precision steps of fire and ice she moved throughout the flatter parts finding a rabbit and a weasel. Following she found a small hollow big enough for her to fit as she settled in for a meal and a long night.

She felt safe enough in the small hollow she dug near the mountain outcrop that no one would find or hurt her and she had chosen a place far away from the stench of mountain lion urine.

She was just about to eat when a sound caused her pause and delicate head and eyes of vibrant green looked out over the land as daylight became dusk. Her fire kissed hide a beacon for sunset as it settled along her in its gentle rays.

RE: Where cats and fears do tread - Amaguq - October 30, 2023

After hours of jogging, the wolf hadn't got any closer to the shore; instead, he'd stranded on a rock formation, a crag between sheer cliffs and sharp edges of the surrounding mountains. The light was fading from the sky by the minute, and the dark abyss Amaguq could see as he balanced himself over the cliffs reminded him of the open throat of a giant.
Night was falling fast: he could hear debris falling from the edge of the cliff through the sheer quaking of his pads, and the scent of the invisible predators in the area made him uneasy. He hurried to lower, safer ground before the sky turned pitch black.

Even in the fading light, his sharp eye quickly noticed a hollow structure: It might be too small for him, but that didn't stop him from taking a closer look. As he peered inside, he saw a fiery glow, fed by the last rays of sunlight, shining like small embers in the darkness. The image was so hypnotic that it took him a while to notice a pair of emerald eyes staring back at him.

At first he mistook the creature for a fox, but as his eyes adjusted to the darkness, his heart leapt at the recognition. His eyes widened, reflecting the many questions that danced in his mind. What was she doing in there? How could he approach her without her running away again? What to say after what had happened?

Not knowing what to do, he froze in place, like an idiot, bowing his head and hoping the pup wouldn't feel too intimidated.

Ajei had grown up around mountains so she knew well how treacherous. So she had retired early. She did know that others didn't evident by the clattering she had heard and lifted gaze to.

It was in the evening light that a scarred individual caught her eyes. At first he didn't seem to notice and she silently prayed that he wouldn't mostly because she didn't know what he would do.

But he didn't seem as scary now. Bowing his head. She tilted her ear forward and took a deep breath.

You aren't going to hurt me are you?

she felt a small quaking in her limbs.  Unsure what to do but it didn't hurt to ask right? Right?

Her voice was melodious and beautiful, a perfect match for her delicate features.
He cleared the painful knot in his throat and replied sternly:  "No."  There were many dangers that could lurk in her den, but the white wolf was not one of them.

He couldn't shake the restless feeling, fed by all the questions in his mind: not long ago he had seen her in a forest, an environment much friendlier to a wolf of her age than the base of these treacherous mountains, reeking with cougar piss. Finding an old loner like him wandering around laughing at death was one thing; finding such a young, soft she-wolf was quite another. She seemed out of place.

He crouched down and slowly approached the small wolf, still maintaining a reasonable distance.
"How did you get here?" Amaguq asked. She didn't seem lost in the slightest: on the contrary, she seemed quite independent, and as far as he could see and smell, he acknowledged that he was in the presence of a small survivalist.

Ajei didn't think much on her voice or her features. She was still young enough that she hadn't cared yet. She knew that in time, she would, but she was pleased with herself. So she imagined this would continue to carry on into adulthood. Ears thrust forward at his straight no. He had seemed so mean earlier, had they misjudged him? What a cruelty if they had. Though anyone who stepped onto claimed land, was a bit foolhardy.

He approached her low and slow. It caused her a moment of alarm, but he didn't seem as if he would hurt her. And one who had not known meanness, perhaps she was willing to think the best of any and all.

She laughed softly. I walked of course. Mountains can be treacherous if you are not careful. So I decided ot find a place to sleep for the night. Are you hungry? I have weasel and rabbit, you are welcome to one.
