Of the pine-trees crusted with snow - Eira - January 30, 2024

The work of her sitik was well under way. It was spacious, though not yet lively. One day soon, perhaps.

Sooner, it would need soft pelts to cover her resting place. Perhaps another thing she might share.

Standing in the archway, she considered in silence, planning what appearance she might make for it. White pelts, or brown? There were plentiful options for both. But she just couldn't seem to make up her mind!

have sunset man. also, hi chief i know you're reading :>

The man of sunset came to her with a mouthful of soft rabbit - one white and one in the transition of getting its winter coat, tail held high with a wag. Proud of his catches, and proud of his mission.

He wanted her to be fed! And make sure she knew moonpack would take care of her.

A small wuff of greeting upon setting the rabbit down. Winter Song? These are for you!

She turned, almost startled.

But in the place of surprise, there was warmth and recognition.

Fallen Sun. Their sunset man.

Thank you!

She nudged his shoulder with appreciation, then glanced to the offerings. Both would make for fine pelts, just the same as they would meals.

Tilting her head, she gave a look over her shoulder, then back to him. A chuff of invitation followed. Stay... and share?

Silent sunset man could never refuse an invitation to share a meal - and with Winter Song, it was impossible.

He longed to let her hear his voice as easily as he heard hers, to talk in ways that she was better accustomed to. It still burned his fur to think how little most understood him, as if Words and Important Noises were so integral to wolf life. How he somehow managed to grow up learning not one. But she... didn't seem to mind. And so, he would practice with his reflection in the water until his voice no longer sounded as an eagle's scream but instead like hers or Silver Shadow's.

He sat next to her, but these were her rabbits. She should take the first bite.

When he agreed to join, then settled beside her, she chuffed her delight.

At his hesitation, upon which she knew to be invitation of the first taste, she bit into the warm flesh, savoring the bite and tangy iron of the blood that coursed within.

Humming contently, she licked away the new mess. Then, with a nudge to his forelimb, she waited for him to eat next.

He wuffed back at her, enjoying the moment - as evident by a tail that could not for the life of him stop wagging, flapping behind him like an elegant fish out of water.

She stopped, and licked away the mess she made. He noticed.

While he had never before been a neat eater... it wouldn't be fair if she was the only one, would it?

Fallen Sun chose a leg and tasted its flesh. Since when did rabbit taste that good? And although not the best cleaning wolf, he did his best to clean up the spillage.

She watched him, just as she knew he had watched her.

When certain he truly would eat along with her, she continued on, finishing her portion until her belly was full and happy.

Laying out along her side, she closed her eyes for a brief time, relaxing against the cool earth beneath her.

He had eaten his fill as well, and had been careful to pick apart meat, not fur. A present twofold; a meal, and pelts that he thought would look nice in her den or around her shoulders.

She lay down, then. Fallen Sun was a follower when it came to social interactions, it came from the situation he was in.

Naturally, he thought nothing of laying down himself, though he made sure to not do so where he would touch her. It didn't stop him from resting head on his paws and angling his muzzle to watch the pale wolf.

A tiny sigh.

RE: Of the pine-trees crusted with snow - Eira - February 04, 2024

When he sighed, her eyes popped open on instinct, a tint of concern in her eyes.

Inching closer, she nudged his paw with her nose, a small whine coming next with the question: are you alright, sunset?

Sunset. She liked calling him this.

But she would like to call him her sunset instead.

Was this too premature of a thought?!

RE: Of the pine-trees crusted with snow - Fallen Sun - February 04, 2024

There were few ways he could express his contentedness.

So he tapped her muzzle with his own, warm breath blowing back into his face with the exhale.

Fallen Sun did not move it right away. Another sighed wuff, a movement of his paw to be closer to her.

But still he would not lay beside her, even if he wanted to. That was for her to decide. He'd never considered himself good at this stuff but ma always taught him to let the woman decide what she wanted when it came to closeness. And it was definitely working thus far.

Another sound from him, another whine from her.

But then, he touched her in return. Now she understood!

Without the need, nor want to hesitate, she scooted even closer, claiming a spot at his side. Her flank pressed into his nose, her nose tapping his chin with the want to bury her head beneath it and be fully surrounded by him.

She was cold, or, at least that was the sense in his head. But he cherished this moment, so much. He lowered his head to be level with the top of hers - though it slid to the other side and down her cheek.

A tail wag.

A quiet wuff, as if in disbelief.

Maybe she could be his Winter Song, if just for a moment.

RE: Of the pine-trees crusted with snow - Eira - February 04, 2024

It felt as though he caged her in, trapping her with his warmth. But unlike any other entrapment, she didn't mind this one even the tiniest bit!

Sighing softly, she nestled as close as their bodies might allow, and closed her eyes, relishing these moments for everything they were worth.

And, to her, they were worth much more than most experiences she'd had in her short lifespan.

It had been long since he'd felt the warmth of another wolf, and he nearly wolf-hugged her before he thought better. A smile laced his muzzle.

And he'd stay there, and wrap her in firelight and summer nights, for as long as she wanted.

RE: Of the pine-trees crusted with snow - Eira - February 04, 2024

oh .. my .. gosh .. yes!. so freaking cuute. :3

Sooner than she'd meant it, her breath evened to a slow, soft rhythm. One that said sleep would come.

And soon, it did.

And she slept peacefully, with (her) sunset at her side.

fade out here?

RE: Of the pine-trees crusted with snow - Fallen Sun - February 04, 2024

yep!

Sleep quickly took him, lulled to sleep by her breath and warmth.

He dreamed of her, of running through flower fields and dreamed of the day he could say Hi, my name is Fallen Sun. to her, without the complications.

To hear his own laughter.

And a sleepy sunset held a sleepy tail flap.
