Her dreams were fierce and terrible that night. Again and again Reverie woke trembling only to fall back into troubled sleep in the next moment. She dreamed of blood. She dreamed of waking alone in her den, a little pile of children tucked at her flank. She dreamed of fire.
Something was coming. Something terrible was coming for her. Reverie only ever dreamed so vividly when her life was about to crumble around her. And Everett only came into her life when she truly, desperately needed him. There was a storm on the horizon, she felt it. What could she do but brace herself and wait for it to pass?
Morning greeted her with a flash of gilded feathers fluttering away from her den. She tried to pretend she couldn't see them.
