the weight of the world - Sialuk - March 21, 2024 read only; backdated to march 7th.
Days came and went. The sun still set, the moon still rose, but Argent's departure hit her harder than the others had. The bride price he had come back with lay in the ulaq, but Sialuk did not feel right in using the items he had acquired. Acrux and Maggak no doubt missed him—Elentari, too. Sialuk withdrew from the village, barely aware of the life that grew in her belly. Sialuk ate and drank, but the luster to her fur faded. She smiled, but it did not reach her eyes. The feeling was reminiscent of what she had felt during her darkest days on the spine. A raincloud shrouded her spirit, and all those around her could surely see her sorrow. But she could not go after him. He had made his choice, and Sialuk would not force him into a life he did not enjoy. Oh, how she wished it could be different. Then, news of Talisman's death reached her, and her grief felt hollow. Like she had so many times, Sialuk reached for the sacred bones, hoping they might provide her a way out of her misery. Instead, they only mocked her, and Sialuk scattered them aside, frustrated, angry, and still deeply hurt. |
