Much like Rivenwood, the wilds were in flux. Winter, ever a jealous lover, still clung to the land in patches. But spring was implacable; change came for the wilds each day.
As far as Goldfinch knew, the world had always been this way and always would. She delighted in muddy half-melted snow and fresh green grass alike. Her path toward the sound which had drawn her from the den was a winding one, filled with pauses and quick little backtracks. She was as distractible as any young pup, and brimming with newfound love for all that her home had to offer.
In truth she'd only gone a little ways from the den — but to her, in this moment, this was the greatest journey of her life. She would retire after this, she was sure.
First she needed to find the source of that sound. It couldn't be much further.
