everclear - Reki - April 18, 2024

A spritely boy—who, let's be honest, looks to be stuck in a preteen body despite being nearly an adult—slinks his way along the beach without any awareness of the residents up the nearby bluff.

The salt air is too strong, for one thing. His nose is extremely dry but also simultaneously dripping, which he snorts and wheezes through. A gull shrieks overhead and Reki lifts his head quickly to stare as it wheels out across the foam, to the dark bands of ocean beyond.

As he stops, the boy huffs a congested breath and then sneezes, his mouth wide open, his head shooting down and ears back for a spasm. Ugh. There's gotta be something here to help him.

RE: everclear - Lucette - April 18, 2024

I'm assuming this is Siren's Bay?
Lucette, at only a month old, wasn't meant to be so far from the den. She knew this very well. Yet since that day when she and @Lafayette had stepped into the light together, she often found herself drawn to the world beyond their little home. She loved to sit outside the den and listen to the sea most of all.

But of course, she couldn't be content just to listen for long. @Mireille was away from the den just then, and her clever daughter had already mastered slipping past most of her babysitters when the need arose. Whether her twin followed her or not, Lucette had stolen down to the beach.

Her first glimpse of the sea, though she didn't know it yet, was the moment her life changed. The moment it truly began to take its own shape.

She had never seen anything so beautiful. Lucette was so awestruck by this discovery that she didn't notice the skinny stranger nearby until his sneeze cut through her trance. She flinched, a low fearful growl already brewing in her small throat as she took several steps back. When her eyes landed on the boy, the fur along her spine lifted. He wasn't supposed to be here.

But neither was she.

Sure!

After that initial sneeze, Reki thought he was free and clear. A few steps later—as he happened to cross out of a cliffside shadow and in to direct sunlight—there were three more in swift succession.

Once that ended he sat back in the sand, a little bit winded and a little bit disoriented by a sort-of whiplash. His eyes watered; he went on to suck back a wet breath and huffed as he looked around, squinting, until he saw a ruddy figure half-cut by shadow.

Oh. Heddo, uhm... cue a snuffle and a small cough as he choked back some phlegm. He shrank down a little bit, realizing he had company. Id diss you'h beesch? For the time being he couldn't really see the kid, and thought they looked much older.

The stranger's face was exploding, Lucette had decided. She was rather surprised to see it still intact when he'd finished. She blinked at him as he spoke, tilting her head as if to say so you're done now?

It appeared that he was, and he was beginning to catch on to the lack of welcome in this beach. Lucette nodded slowly, growl tapering off into silence. It was her beach. Her hackles were still bristling, but for now she was beginning to calm. It didn't seem as if he meant to hurt her. Though, that didn't mean she wanted him here.

RE: everclear - Reki - April 18, 2024

He would have run off by now if he was in his right mind. There was a fever where his common sense should have been. Even as he spoke his congested way, his throat was scratchy. Reki didn't hear a reply from the figure and then noticed he had closed his own eyes.

It was warm here in the sun; almost too warm on his toes, and certainly too bright. He languished for a minute longer and then hoisted himself up to his unsteady feet, seeking another shadow—which meant he walked even closer to where the girl sat, not realizing the shadow was her.

Ugh, shorey, I god awl turned aroun'. So brigh'd here, y'knoh? He flumped his butt down again in the sand, seemingly to hang there with his head low and shoulders hunched. Theeng I 'aff a code. Sniff Mebbe you 'ken helb me? Whish way do I goh?

RE: everclear - Mireille - April 20, 2024

"reki."
mireille had learned not to try and stop lucette. rather she encouraged her daughter's forays. sapphique was the birthright of all its children, from the tangle to the swamps to the sea. there were enough guardians to watch over the pups as they ventured; the obsidian need only place her faith in them.
now she bent to kiss the girl's head, and offered the mostly-grown boy a faint smile. mireille knew him, she thought, and straightened.
"requiem. do you remember dis place?"
her emerald eyes flickered to lucette, wondering, pensive.
