the screeching of gulls was far behind her, with it the taste of the sea in the air. she knew to miss these things. she knew also that it was not a forever thing.
the forest that rose around her was inviting, at first. there were plenty of things to study; plants that did not grow upon the isle, animal scents and leavings - indelicate as it was, melinoë would make great use of her galavant.
as the day tipped in to night, she felt the forest come alive. it was cold but not lonely. the stars drifted around her, dancing, and as the fairylight swirled through the grass she felt a great awe overwhelm her.
