poinsettia - Chickadee - May 25, 2024

set for tomorrow, 5/26! optional, aw, no posting order! <3

today, she encouraged the babies a little further out of doors. she had found a series of feathers dropped by a frightened jay, and crooned them to to come and look. "it's blue, @Eagle," chickadee murmured. "and @Crane, look at the black stripes! @Cardinal, see how they're white here? that's because they're thicker feathers."
she conversed with them often this way, seeing no reason to coddle their speech, and now smiled fondly at them.

quick one to get it in his log <3

blue! he exclaims, wagging his behind with vigor his whole body vibrates. he perked hi ears at his mother's observations.

blue! blue! eagle was stuck on the fact though, declaring everything he saw was now blue, looking to his mother for affirmation.

same

an old soul, an eloquent mind, yet nothing that came off her tongue sounded sufficient. she chose instead to be quiet. her heart was youthful enough for all of her. she stuck her nose directly into the feather; it stuck against her nose as she breathed in. this startled her, and she fell back on her haunches in surprise.

cardinal cooed! eagle said the word himself, and chickadee grinned in heady delight. little crane seemed surprised; her mother reached to separate the girl from the feather.
"very good, very good," she told her birdbabies. "blue. white. black. all colors. and soon you'll have even more to look at."

soooon? he blinks tepidly, then matching his mother's smile in earnest glee. her happiness always seemed to infuse their time together, chickadee's the melodies of her homey lilt (usually with embellished pride for him or his sisters) always did it. soon?!

"soon!" chickadee assured. "we'll go all over, see all kinds of things and colors. and shapes! and sounds! there's so much to do in brecheliant. but don't be in too much of a hurry to grow up," their mother chattered.
"now. let's wait until your father gets back. i bet he'll have something cool to show you," chickadee enthused, tail thumping just to think of her handsome husband.
