ditch your problems, better days are coming - Mercy - June 18, 2024

keeping things vague out of necessity; tags are an invitation but this is all welcome. as she is trespassing, open to interception & injury... gentle request to keep this to maybe three or four participants at most

It was a long journey from the Tangle to Sun Mote Copse; it felt like she had traveled the world by the time she arrived. She had found some stale scent trails nearby that smelled sort of like her parents, but she knew in her heart that she would have no doubt once she'd truly found home.

She felt that it was unlikely that her parents would be without a pack, especially this time of year, so instead of wandering aimlessly she started knocking on doors.

It just so happened that the first one she knocked on, she would catch their scent in the air. Her heart beat rapid-fire as she nosed the ground. @Meerkat and @Njord, nothing else mattered — all manners were abandoned as she barreled into the territory, howling joyously to announce her arrival.

Towhee had returned with quite the tale, much to @Otter’s and Skipjack’s delight. Meerkat insisted she rest in The Taigh while she went and fetched some fresh meat. She also kept an eye out for @Fennec, since Towhee had mentioned a strained neck and possibly a broken tail.

She’d just made a catch at Ray’s Beach when a loud howl startled her. With one paw pinning the fish to the ground, she glanced up and saw a reddish figure bounding this way. Meerkat stiffened, though as the figure came closer, recognition hit her upside the head.

Forgetting about the fish—it flopped right back into the water—Meerkat splashed across the small river to close the gap with a cry of, Mercy!?

Sorry for the tardy reply @Mercy!! So excited to see her back, KT!

Njord foraged for summer berries when a happy howl called for the Laird and Lady of the Copse. Odd, the man thought… for though the voice struck him as familiar, Njord could not place it. It had been years since he had last seen his daughter… though he thought about her often, she was the last he had expected to find their new home.

He loped toward their border and arrived just as Meerkat dropped the fish.

Mercy?!

Eh?!Njord breathed, shocked. His blue gaze honed in on the fiery visitor.

Honestly, he was too stunned to speak! What God’s name could he shout in rejoice? Njord quickly cantered toward his wife and beautiful daughter. “Ah cannae believe it! Mercy!” he sputtered as the father moved to embrace her.

No worries at all!! I'm excited to be playing her again. <3

It is luck that prevents her from the wound of non-recognition; her heart was too full to consider any burdens. Mercy, mercy they cried; a name she carried now for no one but them. She slowed to a canter so she didn't knock her mother over on impact and quickly wrapped her in a cheerful embrace, then pulled her father in close as he closed the distance.

This reunion was the most precious thing in her life. She didn't know what family had meant until she didn't have one — or, more accurately, until she was so far away that having one didn't seem like something she had. This moment proved otherwise, and she confirmed in her mind that she needed nothing else in the world.

She felt like a little girl again. She also did not know what to say.

Ma, da... it took so long to find you. There was nothing accusatory in her tone; it felt like a miracle she had landed here at all. This is your home now?

It was her. She looked the same—Meerkat could never forget her child’s face—and yet so different. She caught herself staring at Mercy’s face even as the three of them embraced one another, struck by what time had done to her eldest daughter’s features. She’d really grown into her given name.

Vixen, she breathed into the side of the young woman’s neck, tucking her muzzle there. Oh, it’s so wonderful to see you after all this time. You have canny timing too, she said, drawing back to look again into Mercy’s face whilst her forelegs clutched at her shapely shoulders. Such a beautiful lass.

Her question made Meerkat wonder if she’d gone to the sea cliffs first. Had someone known to guide her here? She supposed it didn’t much matter. She glanced at Njord with hearts in her eyes before gently grasping Mercy’s elbow and giving it a little tug. She motioned with her head.

Yes, this is our village. Let’s go to The Taigh, where you can get some food and rest while you tell us all about where you’ve been and what you’ve been up to, Meerkat insisted. After that, we can give you the grand tour, if you like.
