break the chains - Kaskara - December 08, 2014 Hopefully someone Kaskara hasn't met yet! :) Maybe @Kaede or @Nefarious? :D Her duties as beta weren't much different from her duties as a regular member, though she did make it a point to patrol the borders more often, adding her scent to her brother's whenever she felt his was becoming weak. After fighting off the intruding wolves with Saber, Kaskara had taken a more diligent approach to her patrols. Once in the morning and again at night, she would take a sweep of the borders, and mark them afresh. Rolling her shoulders as she walked along the creek, she felt the sore muscles move and remembered the fierceness of the wolves she had fought. She would need to find Scimitar and discuss seriously consider training up some of the newer members in combat. They didn't need to be caught unawares during winter, especially now that food was scarce and it was beginning to show, since even lone wolves were attacking them. Kas paused at the creek's edge, looking over the land, wondering if she should attempt to fish in the cold waters today, or if she should try to hunt traditional prey. Either way, she didn't know if she would be successful, but at this point her gnawing stomach was nearly numb to the emptiness. RE: break the chains - Nefarious - December 09, 2014 :D
A routine had began to form as Nefarious grew accustomed to the idea of placing his trade as healer on the proverbial back burner, not to be neglected, simply to be returned to at a date when it was more practical. Currently, the Creek was in need of Wardens, or at least wolves to pull their weight most heavily upon the Creek's borders. The shaman had not placed his faith on a back burner. Medicinal was only a small part of being a shaman, and the religious aspects had always been the most important part of the title of Angakkuq. Though, technically, Nefarious had never made it that far, to claim the title of Spiritual Leader but it was of his own design. Simply, he wished Suluk would not have bid him to leave Akkuma empty pawed. The journey was meant to strengthen him physically as well as mentally, though, the longer Nefarious stayed with the Creek, the less he felt inclined to return to Akkuma. Sure, he had not felt the need to keep his religion guarded so closely — or guarded at all for the matter but in that respect Akkuma hadn't been so very diverse. Diversity was what made packs strong. It was the differences, not that which made them similar.
The socialism that clung to Akkuma had pros, sure, but it also had it's more than fair share of cons. Acceptance of the faith that the Kesuk family had followed for numerous of generations. Deciding whether it was Sos or Atka you followed with a rarity of cases like Nefarious in which he was entirely neutral and followed both of the Great Bears, striking a delicate balance. It was nice for others to have a freedom and to want to believe in what they wanted to even if they believed in nothing at all. The anarchy of it was enticing to the shaman, even if he felt like even thinking it was disobeying his father.
After a few more minutes of letting his train of thought run wild, he tucked those thoughts away to reflect upon later, refocusing his attention and efforts back upon his patrol. Just in time, for he soon came across the female he recognized as Kaskara from the meeting — the Creek's Beta. He did not know more of her than her name and her position, and slowed his pace, letting out a soft chuff to announce his presence, his stance taking on a submissive one in respect of her authority over him.
RE: break the chains - Kaskara - December 15, 2014 Yay! Thanks for joining! :)
Kaskara's musings were interrupted by a short chuff from a fellow member and she turned to find a two-toned wolf not far away. He looked like a darker, more masculine version of Paarthurnax, if she didn't know any better. Kaskara returned his greeting with one of her own, moving to intercept him. She nodded appreciation for his display of submission, but also wished him to relax slightly. "I don't think I've met you formally. I'm Kaskara." Even now, she wasn't used to introducing herself as beta. It wasn't that she was embarrassed about it, she just wasn't accustomed to it yet. "You're pretty new, yeah?" she asked, looking him over. He seemed strong enough. She would withhold judgment about his intelligence until she spoke with him a bit further, but she knew her brother would not accept someone without merit. "You were pretty quiet during the meeting. What do you think about all this concerning Shadow and Paarthurnax?" She wasn't trying to trick him into anything, she just wanted to know what he thought of the situation. It definitely wasn't a common occurrence that most packs dealt with, so it would be interesting to see what he thought of it. RE: break the chains - Nefarious - December 16, 2014 Nefarious took the time to study Kaskara, having not had much of a chance to do so in the meeting given that there had been more important things afoot than being able to recognize faces. The Beta bore a coat of chocolate brown with a dusting of silver along her back. The only reason that the shaman was able to recognize her as Scimitar's sibling was thanks to Saber who had introduced himself as their brother. Having a family oriented and dominated pack was something that Nefarious was used too considering that Akkuma was largely Kesuk ran. That, at least, was something that Nefarious found to be familiar and subtly the shaman drew comfort from it. The Beta introduced herself, giving her name formally. It was not the first time that he had heard it, but it was only polite that they exchange names even if they'd heard the others' name in the lips of others. "Nefarious," The Kesuk gave her in return, offering her a soft smile as he settled upon his haunches keeping his stance neutral. Neutral was what Nefarious was good at, after all.
"That is correct," The shaman replied, counting the weeks that he'd been apart of Swiftcurrent Creek in his head. Though the time-line was a loose one he reckoned that he'd been in their ranks for about a month give or take. Subtly, a brow rose when Kaskara spoke about his silence at the meeting, and then further inquired about his opinion regarding the whole Paarthurnax and Shadow issue. He had opinions on it, sure, but he had withheld them at the meeting because of his newness an the fact that he was not sure if some of the senior members would have appreciated him stepping in when it was not necessarily his place.
"I have spoken with Paar personally," The shaman began, "She was one of the first wolves that I spoke with upon my arrival," Nefarious took a pause here, salmon pink tongue snaking put to draw across his lips and nose once. "I believe we are doing the right thing, protecting her and her young, and keeping Shadow away from them. He is arrogant in that he thinks that because he is their blood that he has any rights to them. I was a small child, lost and hungry when my adoptive father found me. He was more of a father to me than my biological one ever was." Granted, Nefarious did not remember anything of his parents but he reasoned that there must be a good reason for it. "In reality, blood is nothing more than genetics. It means no more and does not grant anyone rights they do not deserve. There is a reason she ran from him, after all."
RE: break the chains - Kaskara - December 29, 2014 "Pleasure to meet you, Nefarious," she replied, nodding her head toward him. He was a wolf of quiet stature and serious demeanor, at least so far as she'd seen. Perhaps under different circumstances he would have been a jovial fellow, but Kaskara didn't really have room to talk; she came from a line of serious brutes and brooding dames. She tried not to let that influence her completely, however. When he began telling her of his thoughts, Kaskara settled down to listen. Whether or not they were actually right in keeping Shadow away, Kaskara appreciated Nefarious's honest answer. "I appreciate your honesty, Nefarious. I can't say whether what we're doing is right or wrong in the grand scheme of things, but for Paarthurnax and her babes' sake, I believe it's right." With a nod, she thought of the things she could say in return about blood, but decided against it. Blood was everything to her, but she understood that it wasn't viewed so absolutely by everyone else. "How have you enjoyed your stay in the creek so far?" He had been here for about a month and Kaskara knew this was about the time to make decisions to stay or flee. She hoped that he would stay. He seemed to know his own mind and she could use wolves like that. They spoke for a few moments more before Kaskara had to do another patrol of the borders. She wished Nefarious farewell and hoped to meet him again soon enough. |
