Well—he hadn’t expected that, and a surge of guilt coursed through him as the shadow runner loped after the path he believed Pukei ahd taken. Arlette had been a vicious sight—combined with Pukei’s innocence and initial hesitations, he couldn’t help but feel he had literally almost fed her to the wolves.
Nose tilted up to the air, trying to scent her, only when they were further from the den of the new mother did he begin to croon for her. “Pukei? Hey—wait up?”
