Are you lonely? In need of a friend? - Ponderosa - July 09, 2024

@Ghelan Maybe? Ponderosa is starting to branch out of her box.

The ocean. Her parents had talked about it, shown it to her from a distance. It was so big, it seemed scary, and she didn’t want to go near it, but there was this pull. Ever so small it was. Fear playing tug of war with curiosity. Ponderosa decided against giving into the curiosity, not today. She had just finished a breakfast of meat, which was still new to her.

She walked off upon the grassy hill that their den was constructed on, following a scent trail. It smelled like her siblings scent, and after giving a call to her mother, she continued on. The distance seems great for a small being, with the den site still in eyeshot. From there, her mother watched, letting her learn, explore.

She was quiet. Like a hunter, tracking her prey, with her yellowing eyes searching, ears swiveling.

ghelan picks at one of the fishbones given by chakliux. he didn't eat in front of the man, ever, only waiting for him to leave before doing so. rarely does he leave the den. until today, as for once, someone else visits the den.

a girl, completely dipped in black. he stares wide-eyed. at first, bliss sends his heart racing; a friend! but ghelan doesn't leap for joy. he couldn't; his gut tells him otherwise. quickly wide crimson eyes twist into crescent moons as teeth are bared. he swipes a tongue over them, as if to make sure they are real.
this was his beach, his den. he's tired of people stepping all over what's his. the boy staggers onto three feet and charges for the girl once she closes in far closer than she should've.

It seemed alright at first, but nay. A wide eyed gaze turned to fear, and although she didn’t know what the body language meant, she had a pretty good idea when the boy charged forward.

She jumped back, but not before he could reach her. She started backing up, her back hunched like a cat, her fur standing on end, ears flat against her skull. She let out, by instinct, a growl.

Why did he attack her? She was only wandering, watching. She had no ill intentions. Would her mother intervene? Or watch from a distance as these two “played”, as most pups do?

She didn’t want to lose this battle, but felt hesitant to reach out and act.

when teeth meet the ruff of the girl's fur, ghelan pulls away. shame ripples from his face and down to his spine, but the tremor doesn't settle his hackles.

go away! a bark barely intelligible in hunter tongue unfurls from his growling.
this place mine!

The dark boy scrambled back. He didn’t speak the words of her mother or father, and even though she couldn’t understand the words, she understood the emotions. Body language too. “Friend?” She asked, her voice a mix between sadness and fear.

“Why did you bite me?” Her voice was quiet, as this was just her. Later on, her quietness would stick around, ever present.

she speaks nonsense, this trespasser. she didn't speak his language, and yet there was a pain in it that was universal. the tremble to the girl's voice quickly softened the once fuming boy, shame washing over. his ears flatten atop his skull, eyes watering as he musters his words.
i'm sorry the boy pouts through his attempt, unsure if she could even understand him, let alone forgive. i've been bad.
