when the sun had come to its height, chakliux took @Puffin swimming in the deeper surf. there was no reason why one day she could not take a seal herself, and so she must learn the waves.
he steadied her with a shout, held up his arm against a large wave. "go under the water, my girl. keep your eyes open." it would sting to do so, but she must learn to work beyond this if she was to hunt the ocean.

Puffin had taken to lessons with her father eagerly. She loved to swim and to hunt the birds along the shore, and most of all she loved to spend time with her father. One day she would be a seal hunter just like him, she often told herself.
Quick to obey and seeking his praise as always, she ducked beneath the water at once. The cold saltwater burned her eyes terribly! Puffin blinked hard and dove further into the water, hoping to impress her father with her daring dart through the waves.

"good! good!" he exulted, bounding into the surf with his longer strides. he followed puffin; to his shoulder; to his chest; until he was paddling alongside his bird-girl.
he joined her beneath in a moment, motioning her up for a breath! he seized one of his own and then descended under the waves again, swimming powerfully to flank against the hard currents.
