Je veux - Chacal - August 22, 2024

The afternoon sun had begun to lose its intensity when Chacal left Lafayette near the tidepools, following a lesson in flushing crabs from their hiding spots using a piece of driftwood. The boy seemed to have an interest in fishing, something she was keen to nurture in all the children of Sapphique. She decided she would take Roux and Cheri the next time low tide came around- and Jean-Heron and Elosie another day. Too many youth waving sticks around at crabs would not be a good idea, so she decided she would teach them in smaller groups.

She remained wordless, relying on her own ability to communicate with gestures, expressions, and soft murmurings of approval. Melodies she could still spin without hesitation but words came broken, tumbling and as senseless as the roll of stones beneath the waves.

She did her best to maintain a positive attitude for her children, but she found herself struggling to find the motivation to patrol the borders. If a new wolf came, and learned that she could not speak, she might represent the pack poorly. Her mothers, her sister, her brothers- they had all put in too much effort building up the reputation that Sapphique had. She would not be the one to ruin it.

And so she went to a small inlet where the waters were calm, and lapped gently against the shore. She waded in and amongst the drifting kelp she allowed herself to bob and buoy, hoping the water would sip at her restless thoughts and relieve her of her doubts.

RE: Je veux - Lucette - August 25, 2024

Lucette had taken her own quiet interest in the creatures she found among the waters, though she did not often hunt them. She spent much of her time alone since waking from her long sleep; contemplative. Watchful.

Her aunt's silent company suited her just fine. She hadn't meant to find Chacal, but neither did she avoid her. Lucette stepped into the waters readily, furs already damp and salt-laden from an earlier swim. The air felt heavy here; Lucette wasn't quite sure what to do with that, so she ignored it for now, nosing at some of the kelp halfheartedly.

RE: Je veux - Chacal - August 31, 2024

When she emerged from the water, a quick glance toward the shore surprised her- until she blinked the water from her eyes and realized that it was not Lafayette who had followed her here from his tide pool lessons, but his twin. She tread water, turning to face the shore, rising with the bob of each wave as easily as a seabird.

Lucette stepped into the waters, and Chacal smiled faintly; it warmed her heart to see some of the youth accept the sea into their lives. As tied as it was to their habits and traditions, she hoped that the children would never quarrel with it- not the way hers had.

She invited Lucette into the calmer, deeper waters where the waves did not crest.
