Splash Duck Splash - Inkeri - August 31, 2024

Inkeri traveled from Kvarsheim. Her pretty eyes on the horizon and the lake that lay just beyond. The sounds of the ducks as they lingered only a little longer, before they would very surely begin to trek to the southern regions. Perhaps she could catch some of the young boys that were trying so very hard to keep Kvarsheim alive.

Inkeri slunk through the tall grass. Sea green gaze on the ducks as they quaked and churned the water's edges. Only alittle further now. Only a little.

RE: Splash Duck Splash - Esma - November 18, 2024

The longer Esma spent time on her own, the more consumed she became with the thoughts about the spiritual realm. Her daydreams had grown longer and in such a complexity that at times an hour could pass with her physical body standing and sitting somewhere and her gaze empty, focused at nothing. To her it meant that she was well on fulfilling her journey to find answers about the gods and their creations. In real life, however, she often forgot to eat and therefore had grown painfully thin.

Esma considered the feeling of hunger as an inconvenient distraction that hampered her from walking her imagined path towards gods. Being a smart kid - she had at first tried to trick her starving body by meditation and telling herself tales - but even the most spiritual prophet of them all has to sustain. And begrudgingly she was not spending most of her days looking for food, all the while the feeling of unfairness gnawing on to her. Were she to meet any god, who offered her to never feel hungry again, she would have followed them willingly.

Having lived and been raised in a pack with many rivers and lakes nearby, hunting for prey that dwelled there was not an unfamiliar task. And while the stranger in the vicinity was sneaking up on the geese from one side, Esma had been hiding in the grasses and observed the gathering from the other, inching closer and closer, ready to pounce at the best possible moment, should such present itself. So focussed was she on this task, that she was completely unaware of the other hunter.

RE: Splash Duck Splash - Inkeri - November 19, 2024

Inkeri herself was intent upon her task. Though she did notice the other one at last. But she did not speak. There were more than enough duck here for both of them. And why try and stop another and possibly scare off her prize.

Her body grew tight with anticipation. Long lean legs bunched as she readied herself to launch forward. A soft chuff and then she was off, racing. Teeth snapping at the nearest duck to her. She caught it's leg and then quickly snapped at it's neck. Lifting and throwing it down. IT lay at her feet and she smiled. Then waited to see if the other wolf would succeed.

This one was young, like her daughters would be. And she was frail looking. Sickly and thin boned.

Rolled success

RE: Splash Duck Splash - Esma - December 06, 2024

Other hunter's success was Esma's failure. Inkeri's sudden move, the whirl of wings, splashes and quacking ducks happened all at once, scaring the girl so that she left the spot and bolted for the bushes that... were not there. She got tangled in the tall grass and reeds, fell face first in the mud and water. By the time she had got back to her feet again, the other wolf had finished their hunt. A prize by their feet and victorious look in their eyes.

For a brief, mad moment Esma felt like a prey herself - would she become this wolf's next kill? But something about the other demeanor made her ease up a little. She raised herself from the half-crouch and shook her coat. Then turned to face the stranger again and enticed by the smell of warm blood, her gaze turned to the duck and she realized, how very, very hungry she was.

The girl did not win a prize. And Inkeri felt bad. But this was okay. The girl could have hers. After all. Inkeri belonged to a pack, There was food in abundance there. And it was not as if she could not hunt again, or do her favorite thing and that was fish.

Are you hungry? Hungry? You may have this. This.

Inkeri backed up a wag of her tail. I am Inkeri. Inkeri.

her halting speech as always made itself known, but she had grown accustomed to it. And though it still filled her with shame. She could not fix it. So she had tried to live with it.
