that pervasive scent had never gone away; not truly. ava thumbed along the ridges of the cliff's channel, noticing a new deposit of scat that did not belong to her or anathema.
she covered it with sand and kicked over it aggressively -- hers, not theirs, this gesture declared, and with the resolute conviction of a squatter, pissed right on top of it.
then she trotted down the edge of the beach, where low tide revealed a raised sand-bar leading back to the mainland.
