Hear your voices sing back louder - Nasamiituuq - September 05, 2024

Hoping for grandparents but all welcome <3 permission was granted by Ariadne's player for the dream!
Nasamiituuq's journey had taken her much farther from home than she ever could have imagined. It had been the low, late song of an owl which had guided her from the Teekon Wilds in those first weeks. Each night the girl had listened faithfully for the sound, and each night she followed the path it traced. The days of endless walking and the long, lonely nights seemed a blur in her memory now.

In the end she had found more than she sought. Rather, they had found her; exhausted, huddled beneath the scant shelter offered by a tall broadleaf fern from the icy dawn drizzle, Nasamiituuq had been found by a small group of wolves. Women in feathers; proud women, hunters of birds and seekers of summer whose journey began with their birth and ended only with their death. At first they had not understood one another. Still, the women were kind to Nasamiituuq. They'd welcomed her.

So it had not taken her long to learn their language or their ways. Their shaman had taught her many things, secret things earned through scathing trials. For a time Nasamiituuq had thought she might never leave.

It was a dream which had drawn her away in the end: a dream of her grandmother weeping. A dream of a woman wrought in amber and moonlight, her delicate features unmoving as if time itself had stopped. Nasamiituuq had not seen her before, or if she had it had faded from her memory by now.

Dread sat heavily in her stomach as she approached the borders of her home, not knowing what she would find there. Nasamiituuq called softly for @Kukutux and @Aiolos.

Like shooting stars, all three of Vaire’s children has followed their own paths across the night sky. Now, they had come to rest around mother moon. The two brothers had first returned… and it brought great joy when he heart Nasamiituuq‘s voice call for their grandparents.

He came jogging up the slope. Moonwoman and Sunman had not yet arrived.

“Sister!” he called out to the red-tailed woman.

work. there was always work.

hides had been stacked and now a fifth grew outside the ulaq. more were stretched upon dry branches, and still more skins were staked beside the lake, scraped each day by skilled teeth.

ipiktok had come back.

salaksartok had come back.

and now nasamiituuq had come back, called no doubt by the need of her mother's spirit. yuralia and nantahala had taken to this role.

ipiktok's kind, booming voice greeted the sister of his year. kukutux moved to his side with a welcoming embrace. "it is good to see your face, nasamiituuq."

Children of he and Kukutux lost to them. Children of he and Lotë returned.

Aiolos moves in slow steps after his wife and soon makes way at her other side. His graying muzzle crinkles as a smile dances over his mug. It's good to have you home. She had grown so much in this time, turning into a beautiful young woman.

Brother; they had nursed beside one another once, not so very long ago, yet Nasamiituuq felt she looked upon a stranger when Ipiktok called out to her and she turned to greet him. Her tail waved nonetheless; it warmed her to see him well, to see him home and know that her family thrived in her absence. Brother, it is so good to see your face, She embraced him as she would any of Moonglow, nose pressing briefly to his cheek.

Then her grandmother came to greet her, and Nasamiituuq saw nothing else. Grandmother! She cried, voice soft even so, and wrapped her arms tightly round the woman who she had always idolized, who seemed somehow smaller and frailer and more tired than she had when Nasamiituuq left. Maybe it was only that she had grown so much. Oh, I missed you terribly...

The warmth of tears threatened her golden eyes, but Nasamiituuq blinked them away to smile at her grandfather, moving to hug him now too. I've come to stay, She told him, eyes shining. Moonglow will always hold my heart.
