within these chains - Athella - September 05, 2024

Delayed but here it is. For @Ancelin!

Seasons shifted. Summer to Autumn. Athella marveled at the gradual changing of the leaves. Verdant green shed for the vibrancy of reds, yellows and oranges. Her valley home looked different. Delightedly so.

While the Bearclaws took their time to rebuild, the Princess was occupied with her own endeavors. Sharpening her senses and her teeth. Her senses were alive, prickling and buzzing as she strode confidently through the shadowy cover of the trees.

Brittle, discarded leaves crunched underfoot. Some of their remnants clung to her paw pads, well into their late stage of decay. Acorns and fallen pinecones scattered strewn about the ground lined her little walkway. But that wasn't what held her rapt interest at the moment.

It was a set of small hoof prints, with a distinctly pungent scent hanging in the air. She had never smelled anything like it and it was somewhere close by. However, being the season of Autumn, there were other pests busily flitting about as well. An annoying buzz was in her ears. A rapid, miniscule flash of black and yellow. Airborne and getting much too close to her head than she was tolerant of. Defiant, she snapped her jaws at the yellowjacket, unaware of the punch it packed.

And even if she had known, Athella probably wouldn't have cared less.

thanks for starting! <3

in a riotous show of ochre and orange, bearclaw valley rose its head beneath robes of autumn. queen and knight and princesses built up the bonds of the ursine keep even as their neighbors grew strong.
who could miss the caravan of wolves who came, who joined the stone spires? ancelin chose to assume little and place attention entire on the growing royals who dotted the valley.
athella snapped her teeth at buzzing knife-owners, and her father chuckled at the lesson she might learn. yet he barked once to her now, trying to arrest the attempts before she really was stung; "i found foxes. let's go chase them, athella."
he stood tall, waiting for her approach and seeing how very much she resembled ameline.
