lone boy runs along the edge, chasing after an otter that dared to climb onto the rocks for food. its short legs are no match for the determined brave one, and soon he brings a swift end to the creature. yet its cries continued even after he was sure he had crushed its throat. it doesn't take long for him to find the figure of another, smaller otter, squeaking. any triumph deflated from the boy's body as it dawned on him what he'd done.
but he couldn't dwell on it, even as guilt soured the taste of the meat. he skulks back home, wiping his mind of the memory so as to not feel shame.
