[PHE] arsonists lullabye - Meadow - September 29, 2024

@Reyson wasn’t hard to find, even among the throng of wolves. The very thought that Akashingo would make their way to the vast hunt had not been on her mind, but she only realized now that it had likely crossed her husbands—and with the royal palace, other ghosts of the past might linger as well.

Goodness, was Germanicus with them? She hadn’t seen him since…

She inhaled sharply. She fretted quietly, weaving around others, offering small greetings as she continued her way to her husband, who she would press into—eyes searching up to his. She could only hope this would not send him in a spiral—a flashback to a more terrible moment of his life… “I suppose you’ve seen who has also come,” she murmured, for his ears alone.

Oh he had seen them. He had seen them. And he had quickly turned away. Rumors he had listened. The Pharoah was dead replaced by first his eldest and now his youngest and if Reyson could remember she had been the kindest. But there was always rot at the bases of all structures that were not cleaned thoroughly and he didn't know how deep it went.

He had turned away from their flair. Irritated and annoyed at their blatant play at importance. And he felt the shift of tightening in his chest and he wanted to scream. But he had not spiraled yet.

He blinked surprised and bent his head to hug his mate close.

I saw them.

“We don’t have to stay,” she told him, pulling back so she could better see his reaction. “We can visit the moon wolves, thank them for the invitation and then we can take the kids and go back home,” she affirmed.

Rhonen would likely delight at the idea. Lotus would probably pout.

But they had nothing to prove being here—and the silver wife placed a paw on her husbands own, her concern for him flush upon her features.

Her concern was paltable. There in the space between them infusing him with a warmth and a small shame. But that was not her fault. His shame was his own. His own personal issue.

I am okay for now. And Rhonen and Lotus, well the latter more than the former, seem to be enjoying themselves. How often do they get to meet wolves their own age.

He took a shuddering breath. I will watch for signs and not travel far from you. Avoid them if I can. And if by tonight I can't get rid of this tightness in my chest. We'll leave?

“If I could put them in a bubble and just protect them from everyone and everything…” She trailed off, blinking at her own words and looking sheepishly up to her husband. Socializing them was what they needed—but this might prove to be harder on the mother than she had initially thought… particularly if Akashingo was involved.

“We leave on your word,” she agreed, reaching up to plant a quick kiss to his cheek.

He gave a soft laugh and dipped his head and ran a muzzle along her head. I know you would. But all we can do is raise them as best we can and hope for the best. They are good kids.

Reyson gave a dark look towards the pharoah's. Preferably not with them.

Thank you Meadow.
